VIRTUAL SPIRIT WEEK!
KEEP READING THOSE LIBRARY BOOKS!
The district has asked that parents keep any library books that students have checked out until a later time. Due dates will be automatically extended. I will be sure to announce district protocol as soon as I have more information. In the meantime....keep those kiddos reading!
How will we get our spring pictures?
We haven't received the class photos yet. We are still working on the best way to deliver those to those of you who ordered a class photo. More information to come.

class assignments
The staff and I will be planning for next school year and developing classes based on our best estimate of the enrollment projections for next year. We are planning to finalize the list by August so that class assignments can be sent home prior to Meet the Teacher Night. About this time of year, we begin to hear from parents requesting a specific teacher for next year. They want the “best teacher” for their child, and believe they know who that is based on what they have seen or heard.
As the principal, I visit classrooms and observe teaching and student learning. I know the instructional skills of every teacher and I could not, in all honesty, tell you who the very best teacher on the faculty is, because no one teacher is the best at everything.
When we assign classes, we try to make them heterogeneous. The other factors we consider are: the student’s achievement level, learning style, social-emotional needs, and citizenship. We group children for instructional purposes and placing them in classes based on other factors would defeat that purpose. The key ingredient in this process is trust. Please trust us to make the best decisions for your student’s educational placement.

STUDENT TRANSFER PROCESS (repeat)
A completed request will be required for any student who seeks to attend a school that is not within his or her primary geographic attendance boundary or for any student who does not live within the Gardner Edgerton School district boundaries. Each request needs to be made electronically via the Google Forms link below.
In order to process student Intra-District transfer and Non-Resident requests for SY 20-21 in a timely manner, the following timeline has been established:
Monday, March 9 - Intra-District transfer and Non-Resident request hyperlinks are accessible to the public.
Friday, April 17 - Last day for families to submit transfer requests.
Families will be notified of decisions by June 13, 2020.
Some extra reminders:
A separate request is required for EACH student.
Requests are considered on the basis of class sizes, future enrollments, and the student’s attendance, academic progress, and conduct.
The request is valid for one year only and may not be renewed due to class size increases (crowded conditions) or if the student does not fulfill the necessary academic progress, attendance, and conduct requirements.
When applicable, students who do not re-apply for an intra-district transfer will be returned to their school of residency in Skyward, based on current address.
Students/families who are delinquent as it relates to paying FEES will not be approved for transfer until fees are paid.
If transfer is approved, transportation WILL NOT be provided by the district.
Approval, regardless of “Reason for Request”, is NOT guaranteed.
USD 231 reserves the right to cancel, revoke, or rescind approved requests at any time.
