St. Mary's Catholic School
School Newsletter - Sept 12, 2021
We are in full swing at St. Mary's!
It was indeed a wonderful first week back at St. Mary's! We are so blessed to have an adaptable school community that is truly amazing!
First of all THANK YOU to the many students who have been so incredible about wearing masks in all of our common areas and in their learning spaces. Please remember that all students should be bringing their own masks to school. We do not have extra masks in our office to distribute. A mask is required at school so students would be wise to pack an extra in their bag just in case they misplace their own.
School Immunizations:
Each year, Alberta Health Services & Public Health review immunization records for students to see what immunizations each student needs. A consent form will be sent home with an information sheet for each vaccine recommended for the student. Immunizations in this program include:
- Grade 9: diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis (dTap) and meningococcal (Groups A, C, Y, W-135) conjugate vaccine
Please note that Alberta Health Services will also be offering the COVID-19 vaccine.
EICS wants to make it very clear that vaccinations will NOT be offered to students without parental consent.
Students will need to have the consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian in order for vaccines to be recieved. A hard copy of these letters and forms have been sent home with your student however there are copies attached here:
PLEASE HAVE FORMS HANDED BACK AT THE MAIN OFFICE BY THIS WED. SEPT. 15th
Note that the above form is only for the Covid-19 Vaccine. Other immunization forms will be handed out as per AHS Timeline.
Click on the Button above to access the Daily Screening Tool. This is our number one way of keeping our community safe. As we do not have the capacity to individually screen each student before entry, parents are reminded to use the screening form with their child at home, before arrival at school.
No form needs to be completed and brought to the school.
-Many have shared that it is a good idea to print and post the document on your fridge, etc. as a reminder to self-screen each day and to stay home if sick.
-Attendance at school will be taken to mean that students have gone over the screening questions at home each morning and are good to be at school.
Sept. 30th - Truth and Reconciliation Day
Elk Island Catholic Schools Board of Trustees just held a Special Public Board Meeting passing a motion to recognize September 30th - National Truth and Reconciliation Day as a holiday.
Attached is the amended calendar that now has Sept. 30th listed as a school closure day.
New Faces at STMY:
This week may be a familiar face as we introduce Ms. Sonora Bohaychuk. Sonora is a St. Mary's Alumnus who has joined us from St. Isidore to teach Grade 8 Language Arts and Religion as well as Religion 15 this semester. Ms. Bohaychuk is also the school's new Collaborative Response Coordinator who helps our diverse student body with the various accommodations needed in order that all students can reach their highest potential at St. Mary's.
Ms. Sonora Bohaychuk
"Hello everyone! I am so excited to be a part of the St. Mary’s family, in both the role of a teacher and the Collaborative Response Coordinator. When I’m not at school you can find me enjoying time outside, spending time with family, friends, and my two cats Pig and Pudge. I am incredibly passionate about mental health and am pursuing a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology. I look forward to being a part of the Vegreville community and working with the students, families, and staff in our wonderful building."

EICS Athlete/Spectator Guidelines
EICS is supportive of a safe return to extra-curricular activities. The hope is that current restrictions can be diminished throughout the year as the threat of covid reduces in society and our schools.
- All guidelines regarding masking are to be adhered to. Masks must be worn in all school areas including the change room/locker rooms.
- Masks may be removed during warm-up and while participating in the game.
- Masks must also be worn by the coach and players on the bench.
- At this time, NO SPECTATORS are allowed in the schools/gymnasium.
- Outdoor events will allow spectators; it is highly encouraged that spectators wear masks and adhere to social distancing protocols.
- During outdoor events, modeling of mask use by coaches is strongly recommended.
- Parents are not allowed in the school for planning meetings, these meetings are to occur virtually.
- Masks must be worn when being transported to the event.
