Weekly Update - 10/8/19

Dear eDCSD Elementary Families,



Fall Break and the end of quarter are almost upon us. We hope that you and your family take some time to enjoy the beautiful fall weather and relax. Tonight is the deadline for all quarter 1 work to be submitted. Wednesday and Thursday are final exam days. All final exams are due by Thursday night at midnight. There is no school Friday, October 11 through Sunday, October 20th. School resumes and 2nd Quarter begins on Monday, October 21st at 8AM. Please read the announcements below for details about school events in the upcoming weeks.

Virtual Classes

  • Primarily on Tuesdays based on student need. Mrs. Byrd will be in contact regarding times. There will be no VCs over fall break.


Blended Learning

  • Monday, November 4th: Blended 9:00 am - 12:30 pm

  • If you need transportation for your elementary student to and/or from Blended, you may complete the form below. Seats are limited and are based on a first come, first served basis. Sign ups are completed weekly for the following blended meeting and can be arranged for pick up and or drop off.

What is Coming Up at Blended:

On Monday, November 4th, students will participate in rotations, a lesson with Mrs. Byrd, and will have Mindfulness for special.

Fall Break

There is no school Friday, October 11th through Sunday, October 20th. Teachers will not be available and the office will be closed. Our office staff will be available by phone or email if you need assistance. 2nd quarter begins on Monday, October 21st at 8AM.

October Field Trip to the Space Foundation

On Monday, October 21st, students will not have blended but instead have a field trip to the Space Foundation from 10:30 to 12:30. The school will pay for student admission but all other family members must pay their own admission. Please see the RSVP for more information.

October Blended Cancelation

On Monday, October 28th, there will be no blended due to the staff attending a conference. We will resume our regular blended schedule on Monday, November 4th.


Parking

Just a friendly reminder. During blended, please keep the parking spots along the building and the visitor parking spots open for drop off and pick up only. Limit parking in this area to 10 minutes. If you will be staying for a longer period of time, please park in the lot to the south of the building or along the street.

If your student needs a computer, you may check out a device from eDCSD. We encourage your student to use their own device, if possible. Please note that a $100 deposit is required for check out and will be collected before checkout. The deposit will be refunded when you return the device in good condition. The deposit may be made by either cash or check in person. If you would prefer to pay electronically, you will need to contact the office before you visit the office so that we can put a $100 fee on your My School Bucks account.

Next week is the last week of the quarter and this Monday is the last blended before fall break. Students will have Mindfulness as a special rotation this Monday. There is no school Friday, October 11th through Sunday, October 20th. When we return after break, there is no blended due to an elementary field trip to the Space Foundation. School Wide Field Trip to the Zoo

Last Friday, we invited all families to join us at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. We had a great time enjoying both the company of our eDCSD family and the animals!

Welcome to the 2nd half of quarter 1. I hope you were able to connect with teachers face to face for parent teacher conferences on Monday and Tuesday. If you missed the face to face meetings, there is still time as conferences continue through the end of the week. Please reach out to teachers to schedule a virtual meeting or email update. At blended on Monday, students will have an in house Stemplicity “field trip”. Students will participate in STEM activities in the gym this day. I hope everyone enjoyed their long Labor Day weekend. Tonight marks the official halfway point of the quarter. Parent-teacher conferences will be held next week between the 9th - 13th. Grandparents Day Celebration
Grandparents’ Day is next month and in honor of that special day, I want to invite you to attend a unique event called “An Intergenerational Conversation.”


At the event, children and their grandparents will share ideas on how to make spending time together extra special. The event starts with a Keynote Speaker on the importance of intergenerational relationships, followed by a panel of local students talking about what they like to do or would like to do with their Grandparents. I know you’ll hear some great ideas and, perhaps, you can share some of your ideas too!

The event is free, and there will be light refreshments and cool door prizes.

Date: Saturday, September 7 (the day before Grandparents Day)

Time: 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Where: Philip S. Miller Library, 100 Wilcox St., Castle Rock

Gifted Identification

If you would like to initiate the Gifted Identification process for your child, please complete THIS form. Be advised, you will need approximately 30 to 45 minutes to complete the entire document. There is not a way to save your progress in this form. You need to be ready with your child to fill it out.

October Blended Cancelation

On Monday, October 28th, there will be no blended due to the staff attending a conference. We will resume our regular blended schedule on Monday, November 4th.

Changes for the 19/20 School Year

  • Week: New for this school year, we will be changing what we consider a “week”. Our school week will now start on Wednesday morning and go through Tuesday night at midnight. This will allow students who wish to work over the weekend some school days on each end of the week to get support from staff. Local agencies have joined together to offer free medical clinics in Castle Rock. Please see THIS flyer for more information.


Computer Check Out

If your student needs a computer, you may check out a device from eDCSD. We encourage your student to use their own device, if possible. Please note that a $100 deposit is required for check out and will be collected before checkout. The deposit will be refunded when you return the device in good condition. The deposit may be made by either cash or check in person. If you would prefer to pay electronically, you will need to contact the office before you visit the office so that we can put a $100 fee on your My School Bucks account.


Beginning August 8th, you may stop by the office anytime during regular hours 7:30AM to 3:30 PM.

Dear eDCSD Elementary Families,


Hopefully, everyone is getting back into the school routine. Tomorrow night, Wednesday, August 21st, we will hold our first Parent Orientation of the year. Join us to learn about how you can help support your student as they work towards a successful year. In case you are not able to attend, we will record this session and put the link on the website. Virtual Classes

Blended Learning

  • New This Year! If you need transportation for your elementary student to and/or from Blended, you may complete the form below. Seats are limited and are based on a first come, first served basis. Sign ups are completed weekly for the following blended meeting and can be arranged for pick up and or drop off.

  • Please see the form for more specific information about bus stops and times.

What is Coming Up at Blended:

On Monday, August 26th, students will be taking their iReady assessments. Students should bring a book or drawing materials for after they finish testing. After everyone has completed the tests, students will play group games, have lunch and then art.

Gifted Identification

If you would like to initiate the Gifted Identification process for your child, please complete THIS form. Be advised, you will need approximately 30 to 45 minutes to complete the entire document. There is not a way to save your progress in this form. You need to be ready with your child to fill it out.

October Blended Cancelation

On Monday, October 28th, there will be no blended due to the staff attending a conference. We will resume our regular blended schedule on Monday, November 4th.

This will allow students who wish to work over the weekend some school days on each end of the week to get support from staff. We will be holding a virtual parent orientation on Wednesday, August 21st from 6pm to 7pm online at THIS link. We will cover IC and Canvas Parent Portal, give a tour of Canvas Accounts, recommended notification settings, grades, activity and attendance, as well as how to supoport your student in an online environment. Parents will also be able to ask questions. We will record the meeting and post the link on the website if you are not able to attend. Weekly Update - 8/14/19

Dear eDCSD Elementary Families,


The 2019 - 2020 school year is in full swing. We just completed our first full week of school and are now beginning week 2. On Wednesday, August 21st, we will hold our first Parent Orientation of the year. Join us to learn about how you can help support your student as they work towards a successful year. On Monday, August 19th, students will have a group lesson, participate in rotations for one on one support from teachers and staff, and have PE for special. Make sure that students are dressed for PE. Students should bring their lunch. School pictures will also be taken from 8am - 2pm. You may stop by the picture station before or after blended with your child.


Picture Day

Please mark your calendars for eDCSD picture day. I would like to encourage all of you to come and get your picture taken, if for no other reason than to have your Student ID. Your student ID gains you discounts at movie theaters, entrance to other school events, etc. Please plan to join us for this event. If you wish to order pictures, please complete the order form that was mailed. There are also order forms in the office. Please dress in appropriate school attire.
