From Superintendent Doug Williams
January 11, 2023
In January 2007, I had the opportunity to interview with the Board of Trustees of the Sunnyvale Independent School District for their superintendent position. Accepting the position to be the superintendent of this district was the best professional decision of my career. The Williams family saw two children graduate from Sunnyvale High School, leaving here equipped to be successful in college and in their chosen profession. What a blessing being Raiders has been to us!
Last night, I informed our dedicated Board of Trustees that I will be retiring during 2023. While this decision carries many mixed emotions, I believe it is time for me to begin the next chapter of my life. I will be retiring from full-time duty as superintendent from Sunnyvale, but I consider this change to be a repurposing in my service to education and this community.
It has been a blessing to have been the superintendent of this wonderful school district for the last 16 years. The highlights here, along with a total of 36 years in education, revolve around experiences with wonderful educators and talented students. As many of you know, my best days are filled with time on the campuses, which is what I will miss the most as I transition to what is next.
I have been fortunate to have been a part of the construction of three campuses during my time here, including the creation of Sunnyvale High School. We have transformed our district from an elite Kindergarten through 8th grade district to one of the premier mid-sized districts in the state.
While this transition has been noteworthy, I am most proud of the fact that the heart of SISD has not changed over the years. Even as we have grown and expanded, our core principles remain intact. We are 4 campuses, 1 school. The annual highlight for me is when the campuses come together at homecoming to fill Raider Stadium with students and teachers wearing blue and gold and the seniors joining in with the kindergarteners in the Battle Cry chant.
The SISD culture is still one of high expectations and our success is driven through the collective efforts of talented students, dedicated teachers, and supportive parents. Thank you all for your commitment to helping SISD excel.
It has been an honor to have served this district and our students and staff. Even though I will be stepping down, please know that my love for the Blue and Gold will never waiver. Sunnyvale Raiders Rise! Always have, always will.
Doug Williams
