Voss MS Fine Arts Update
Fall 2020 & Spring 2021 Review
A message from VMS Fine Arts
Part of what makes the Fine Arts so amazing is the way our field adapts to change and finds solutions. In light of the global pandemic, we began last August working towards our common goal: to (safely) work together and create! In response to COVID-19, our F-Wing students have been able to reflect on their experiences of quarantine and make amazing work that adds a productive, relatable energy to our Voss campus culture. We look forward to seeing how this journey of overcoming will add to their ability to thrive in the arts.
VMS Band
The Advanced Bands and Beginner Band had amazing Winter Concert performances this past December. We are back to work preparing for our next performance. The Advanced Bands are working on a solo to perform for a judge in order to earn a medal. They are also working on their UIL Contest music. The beginners are enjoying playing off lines from their “Challenge Chart.” They are excited to earn a prize, get their picture on the Wall of Fame, and receive a certificate at their next concert.
Fourteen members of the Honor band earned a chair in the Region Band in December. We had 3 students earn 1st chair and and 5 earned 2nd chair.
Upcoming Performances:
Advanced Band Solo contest- Feb 8-12
Beginner Spring Concert- March 4th
UIL Contest April 20-21
VMS Orchestra
The Voss Middle School Orchestra has been working hard to prepare for competition season as well as our spring concert cycle. While we make our way through the halfway point of the school year it is important to stay on top of student wellness and health. Students have been learning self-guided stretches and yoga to keep strain off our bodies so that we can perform longer and keep a great ergonomic posture.
Upcoming Performances:
Pre-UIL: 3rd Period only: TBD
UIL: 3rd Period only: TBD
Spring Concert: Thursday, April 29th

VMS ART
In Mr. Goodwyn & Mrs. Kallie's art class, we are excitedly creating some amazing things. Last Fall, Art 1 created paper-mache creatures, learned about shading techniques, and watercolor tricks. We are also starting off this Spring with a Tessellation project and are focusing our beginning of semester on learning all about Color.
Art 2 had fun creating paper collages, began creating a short film, and finished off with a children's story book. They are starting off this semester with a client-based dream tree house which is going to have many micro lessons within it until the final build of a 3D, cardboard miniature model.
Art 3 has explored several different types of art media, including conceptual drawing, watercolor, chalk, and creating works of art for their Master Craft Challenges. They are about to begin a large 3-part project centered around a musician & song, with an Album Cover Design, a Diorama, and a Stop-Motion Animation Music Video.
Both Art 2 & Art 3 students also completed an AMAZING, ginormous chalk mural commemorating our namesake, Capt. Mark Tyler Voss. We entered it in Artpace's 2020 Chalk It Up festival and were named a Finalist.
VMS CHOIR
Voss Eagle Vocal Ensembles (VEVE) had an amazing joint Winter Concert performance with Boerne Middle School South at Champion High School this past December. We are hitting the tarmac fast and furious for the Spring. VEVEs will be attending UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest in early March. In preperation for this, pre-contest concerts are scheduled for late February. In May, the Innagural BISD Middle School Solo Contest will be held here at Voss. Solos will be learned in class, however all choir are encouraged to participate. Each student will perform for a judge in order to earn a medal & receive valuable feedback for growth.
