ALion's Pride
NFMS GSA Club Dec 2017 Issue
Note from the advisors:
We are beyond proud of all our members. They are the GSA pioneers for NFMS, and they are getting their word out. We have been working on visibility and trying to bring awareness to our building for staff and students. Our goal this year is to be able to take our members to the Annual True Colors event held at UCONN. Both advisors went last year and our goal was to make sure this year we brought our kids! We know you don't need for us to tell you, but you should be ever so proud of your child. This is brave, they are brave!
Thank you for allowing us to work with your awesome kids!
Mrs. Jacques & Ms. John
What have we been up to so far?
Ally Week September 25-29
In celebration of Ally Week, members Adriana and Sierra organized a front hallway display advertising Ally Week and our club. It has been an awesome presence in our school building.
Learning about Pronouns
During the first few meetings the members have been learning about pronoun usage and other LGBTQ+ vocabulary. Adriana and Zoe were voted Co-Leaders this year and have a weekly WORDLE to start each meeting. This is when we discuss the vocabulary. They have created an awesome learning tool for LGBTQ+ learning!
Winner of our School Wide Jolly Rancher Jar Guess Fundraiser
The members are busily working at raising money to pay for part of the trip to UCONN in March. We are hoping to take all members to the Annual True Colors event.
The RAINBOW CART
The Rainbow Cart carries all things rainbow! The members, in cooperation with our administration, created this fundraising cart to help raise money through out the year. Kids are really starting to look out for it. We advertise on the morning announcements and through school wide emails. We have had several opportunities to use the cart. The members are selling lollipops, candy sticks, gummy rainbows, sticky hands, slap bracelets, peace bracelets, note pads, stamps, pencils, pens, and a variety of pins. It has been pretty successful. To date (12/20/17) they have raised $175 towards their $600 goal,
In January we will be co sponsoring a school dance with Student Council and sharing in those profits. We will be brainstorming one more fundraising idea for the year, during the next few meetings.
Any and all ideas for fundraising and donations accepted. Contact information is below.
Trying to drum up more membership
During a brainstorming session the members decided to hold an "Open House" during a PLC one day. They advertised the day, time and activities. We did have several students come to check us out. Our Open House provided snacks, an opportunity with the Rainbow Cart and time to just hang out and ask questions. Ms. John and Mrs. Jacques are so proud of this idea and their bravery!
Meeting the NFHS GSA Members
For our Holiday Hang Out, ALion's Pride invited the newly formed high school GSA. It was a great time. We did introductions, chatted some, ate some and played some games. We are hoping for a monthly meeting with the high school's club. They are making connections!
True Colors
Parents/Guardians please keep an eye out for more information about the True Colors event. I believe it will be Friday March 16th. It is at UCONN and we are trying to fund raise money for the bus ride there. The tickets are about $35 for students (we think) and if we can, we will try to raise that money too. Fingers Crossed! More information to come as we get into the new year.
