Bagdad Library: A Year in Review
2016-2017
It's been a fantastic year!
One of our best successes was the massive improvement in lost books! We had our BEST YEAR EVER with only $110.94 unpaid and $221.95 paid. I am so proud at how responsible our students have been this year in helping me take care of our books! Way to go, Bagdad Bobcats!
Once again, I tried to create some sort of event or activity each month that either took place in the library or highlighted the library's materials. Some of these events occurred during the 36 classes I saw each week, while others were scheduled outside of the student's normal library time.
Monthly Highlights!
September: Book Fairy Debut
October: Storybook Pumpkin Patch & Trunk or Treat!
November: Fall Pirate "Bookaneer" Book Fair
Bagdad Elementary set sail for another fantastic book fair! The profits we made went towards purchasing additional books for our collection based on student and teacher recommendations.
December: Celebrating the Hour of Code and Beyond!
January: New Year, New Books!
February: Battle of the Bluebonnets & World Read Aloud Day
March: Battle of the Texas 2x2 Books!
April: Matt Sandbank's Puppet Show
May: Camp Read S'more Spring Book Fair
Makerspace & Technology
My goal with MakerSpace is to create opportunities for students to be curious and wonder while exploring and, of course, learning! Students practice using the 4 C's (Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity) plus quite a bit of problem solving and perseverance! It may get loud and crazy, but I love seeing the excitement in the kiddos when they figure something out!
Working together to achieve a common goal!
Constructing and Building with their Imagination!
Collaborating, Designing, and Problem Solving!
Learning with Osmo!
Strategy Time!
Researching how to do something new!
Summer Reading
Before the kids left for the summer, I talked to them about the dangers of the "summer slide". I know they have worked hard on their reading this year, and we all want to see their progress continue throughout the summer. So, I sent home a Summer Reading Challenge with everyone. The goal is to read a book a day. (I'm doing the challenge too!) Kids can either write in the title of the book they read (3rd-5th) or color in a picture of a s'more (kinder-2nd). All the information you need is on our Summer LibGuide here. I will also be posting places I will be throughout the summer reading in case you'd like to join me!
Reminders:
1. Don't forget you can check out ebooks on Overdrive and on Capstone here 24/7. (Logins and passwords are on the Summer Reading Challenge brochure that went home.)
2. Rouse High School and Steiner Ranch Elementary will have summer library hours, as well! Check out more information about that here.
Have a FABULOUS SUMMER, and don't forget to READ!!
Love,
Mrs. Liptak
