Microsoft Word
Getting my Developer On!
Module 4 - Learning more about Microsoft Word Developer tools.
My objective for Module 4 was to, "learn more about Microsoft Word, adding more graphics and developer (forms) options to my assignments, including using comments as a student feedback option." So I took an assignment that I had students do last year, and updated the assignment using more developer tools.
The first thing I did was add drop down menus. I have not used these before, so instead of students typing in the character's names in the first column, I gave them a drop down menu of the names to choose from.
Secondly, I added what I call the "checking boxes," where students can check whether the character was a protagonist or antagonist.
Next, I added simple text content controls, where students have the ability to add their text for the rest of the columns. I formatted the text, so when students type their answers, the text will be in red - making it easier to grade.
Finally, I added a text box at the bottom of their paper for their essay question.
I think becoming more familiar with these options will help me create more appealing documents for the students, and it will make it easier to grade as well.

Drop Down Menus
Here I was adding the drop down menus for the first column. It was really frustrating that each time I used this feature, I had to re-add each menu choice. There must be a shortcut!
Final Chart
Here is what my final chart looks like for this assignment - using drop down menus, "clicking boxes," and text boxes.
Make it Red!
Here is how you set the properties of content control so when a student types an answer, their typing shows up in red (or whatever you set it to be).
Finished Product!
As you can see in the example above, this is what a student submission using these developer tools might look like.
