Here is your January North Star News!
FROM PRINCIPAL MORROW'S DESK
Happy New Year!
I hope everyone was able to relax, rejuvenate, and enjoy some quality time with friends and family over winter break. We have many exciting things happening at North Star this month.
We're welcoming two teachers to North Star, Ingrid Routsalanien and Serjoe Gutierrez. Ingrid transferred from East at the end of last year and has been on maternity leave this fall. She returned to her 2nd grade classroom today and the kiddos were so excited to see her! Serjoe is our new music teacher joining us from the Philippines. Serjoe will be team teaching with Mrs. Bercy until she returns to KMS/KHS January 16. We're sad to see Mrs. Bercy go but really excited to see what Mr. Serjoe brings to the North Star music program.
Mark your calendars for January 21st - Kindergarten will be hosting our second Family Activity Night the theme is 'Red Carpet Night'.
Fast Bridge testing will be taking place January 9 - January 27. Winter assessment data will be used to monitor student growth and to drive instruction for the remainder of the school year. Please keep an eye out for detailed information regarding the Accelerated Reader program which we will be launching this month.
2023 is going to be a GREAT year!
~ Ms. Morrow

KIBSD Meal Program and Account Payments
If you want to deposit lunch money with a credit card through your PowerSchool parent portal,
please remember that you will need to access the online version.
You can find that link on the www.KIBSD.org website, under the FAMILIES tab.
KIBSD does not support the PowerSchool App, so you won't be able to pay fees that way.
Even though some student info is viewable on the app,
it does not connect to our PowerSchool lunch or activity fee accounts.
We are also always happy to accept cash or checks for student lunch accounts in the office.
Call us @907-486-7500 if you have questions or need any help with parent portal access.
READY TO VOLUNTEER?
Please see the new volunteer sign-up process listed in the flyers below.
We look forward to having you help out around the school!
A Note from the Nurse
Dear Parents, The cold and flu season is upon us! Here are some reminders for your family to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses or illness. If your child has a fever, (100.4F or higher) please do not send them back to school until they have been fever free (without the use of fever-reducing medication) for at least 24 hours. This is very important in controlling the spread of flu and flu-like viral illnesses.
If you have any questions, especially regarding whether or not to send your child to school when he/she is ill, don’t hesitate to reach out. Additionally, please let me know if I can help with the transition back to school if students have any lingering mild symptoms.
Stay Safe & Healthy,
Michelle Odlin, BSN, RN, NCSN
