Lutherville Lab Report
What's gone down & what's coming up at the leopards' lair.
September 9th, 2022
We had a short, but packed week at the Lab! Thank you to everyone who came out to support Baskin Robbins spirit night! I was able to get there at the end of the evening and folks were having a great time. It was a huge success. Appreciation to the PTA for organizing the event.
This week Mrs. Hart and I visited most classes to review expectations for positive behavior (we'll get to remaining classes on Monday). At Lutherville we capture this with "R.O.A.R." being Respectful, On-Task, Achieving, and Responsible. Your children should be able to tell you what that means and what it looks like at all times and locations throughout their day. During the talk we distributed and discussed the BCPS Student Handbook. Please sign the acknowledgement page and send it back to school. Please also review school bus expectations with your children if they are bus riders.
Looking ahead, Tuesday of next week is Back to School Night! We are excited to welcome families into the building. Please see more information on BTSN below.
Due to an unexpected delay, I anticipate we will be able to share club information by the end of the month at the latest, if not sooner. Apologies for the delay.
In Partnership,

Back to School Night
We don't want childcare to be a barrier to families attending, so if you need to bring your children with you to Back to School Night, you can do so. Please also bring something that will help to keep them entertained and engaged during the evening.
Please be advised that our parking lot will fill quickly. Overflow parking is available behind the fields on Francke Ave.
5:30 - School Presentation in the Gym/Auditorium
6:00 - Session 1 in Grade Level Breakout Locations
6:45 - Session 2 in Grade Level Breakout Locations
The second session is offered for families that have two children at Lutherville, so that they can attend for both their children.

Parent Volunteers
BCPS requires ALL volunteers (including parent chaperones on field trips) to fill out a volunteer application and receive volunteer training annually. All volunteer certification expired June 30. This year, the Health & Mitigation training is no longer required. It is a three-step process:
1) Complete the Volunteer Application
2) Complete the Orientation Training
3) Send certificate and application to Mr. McComb at smccomb@bcps.org.
Parents who are selected to chaperone on field trips (for which volunteer training is required), will be required to also sign a Chaperone Agreement Form for each event.
We encourage you to complete the training online. Once completed, print a certificate and send the application and certificate to the school. The online site for training is: http://bcpscos.ss3.sharpschool.com/departments/communications/family_and_community_engagement/b_c_p_s_volunteers

School Meals Information
During the pandemic, the USDA made it possible for school nutrition programs to serve all students free breakfast and lunch through “waivers.” Congress did not extend these waivers for the upcoming school year, so meals are no longer available free of charge to all students across the country. Lutherville is designated as a school qualifying for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP)and School Breakfast Program (SBP). These are the “standard” meal programs for schools that do not qualify for additional support. The cost of meals this year is $1.40 for breakfast and $2.90 for lunch.
To put funds on your child’s account to purchase meals, visit www.MySchoolBucks.com. You can also add funds through this site for snacks. Don’t worry about lost lunch money ever again!
Families may be eligible for assistance to reduce the cost of meals, but must complete an online Free and Reduced Meal Application, to determine eligibility. To apply for assistance with the cost of school meals, please complete the Household Meal Benefit Application (HMBA) by visiting www.myschoolapps.com. If applicable, please complete your meal application as soon as possible to expedite process. The information you supply is confidential, and applications will be processed upon receipt.
If you need help finding your child's student ID for their account, this can be found on the Parent Portal. Please see the screen shot below.
