Lipids
By Jennifer Suriadinata & Simran Jamwal
Monomer of Lipids
The monomers of lipids are glycerol & fatty acids
Polymer of Lipids
The polymer of lipids is a triglyceride.
Examples of Lipids
Some examples of lipids include:
- Trans Fat
- Saturated & Unsaturated Fat
- Monounsaturated Fat
- Polyunsaturated Fat
Functional Groups
The functional group is hydroxyl.
Common Functions of the Biomolecule
Lipids serve as a source of energy and as the building blocks of membranes.
How does the structure affect the function of lipids?
Lipids are hydrophobic and very hard to break down for energy. They do contain more energy per unit weight than carbs, however. It is easy for the body to use lipids as stored energy.
