Who May Participate:

Any professional public-school teacher, school, or district administrator or school board member in the UA/UWA Inservice Center region may participate in summer 2021 professional learning sessions.

You may register for any session appropriate to your subject and/or grade level on the PowerSchool website https://alsde.truenorthlogic.com/.

If your user name and/or password do not work, call your principal or district level PowerSchool Coordinator at your Central Office.

Deep Dive into Blended Learning!

This is an online event.

Take a deep dive into Catlin Tucker's book, Balance with Blended Learning. During this summer book study, educators will understand the concept of blended learning, discover the four blended learning models and apply these models to fit the needs of their classroom. Teachers will develop quality student centered instructional resources that combine research based technology and best practices to enhance teaching and learning in a blended learning environment. The UA/UWA Inservice Center will purchase books for educators registered from Region 4. This study also meets on July 22, 26, 29 from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm each date.

PLUACLD242623: Leading Schools in Disruptive Times

Tuesday, May 11th, 3:30-4:30pm

This is an online event.

The purpose of this study is to foster greater awareness and competency among administrators in dealing with new and emerging disruptions to the educational environment. As participants progress through this course they will consider the following major areas of disruption: school safety, technology, education reform, generational differences in both employees and students, global readiness of learners, diversity, transparency in school operation, assessment, and hyper-change. The study addresses standard seven (Management of the Learning Organization) of the Alabama Standards for Instructional Leaders. REQUIREMENTS: Participants will be required to successfully complete the following: 1) Read the book, Leading Schools in Disruptive Times: How to Survive Hyper-Change. 2) Attend two meetings. 3) Complete a pre-course survey. 4) Respond to chapter questions posted online through Google Classroom (or other platform). 5) Respond to at least two other participant posts for each chapter discussion. 6) Complete all online activities (total of seven). 7) Develop an action/implementation plan. This study also meets on June 8th from 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm. Remainder of study is in Google Classroom.

Reaching Reluctant Writers

This session will demonstrate "tried and true" (and fun!) strategies that help bridge the gap for today's learners in the integrated language arts classroom. The presenter will share best practices for teaching poetry, narratives, nonfiction, grammar, and punctuation that both engage and challenge students to become better writers, especially those who are most reluctant to write. Neuhaus Language Enrichment

Monday, July 19th, 9am to Friday, July 23rd, 2pm

This is an online event.

This class provides teachers with the Science of Reading through opportunities to plan instruction to meet student needs in the context of their classroom while gaining knowledge on reliable reading and spelling patterns, development of oral language and worldknowledge, and metacognitive strategies for comprehension.The coaching staff at Neuhaus will follow up with each participant during the school year to assist you as you apply what you have learned in your classroom to best fit the needs of your students. The first Cohort of teachers who participated in this professional learning opportunity increased their knowledge of the science ofreading by an average of 19% over the course of the class. No partial credit will be given for this class, so please check your calendar before you sign up. This virtual course will be held via Zoom on July 19-23 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. This course will be taken alongside Neuhaus Reading Readiness (K-3). You will automatically be enrolled in the asynchronous Reading Readiness portion of the class. Registration will close on June 18 at the request of Neuhaus.
