MARINE BIOLOGY AND CONSERVATION

Sixth Form students were fortunate to have the opportunity to hear Dr Natalie Sanders give a talk on career opportunities in the field of conservation. She gave the initial background to her own academic route into marine conservation, but also explained the alternative less academic opportunties in this area. Students were very interested in the opportunities for travelling to new places and environments, and one or two stayed behind to ask specific questions about her work. For any students who missed the talk Dr Sanders is happy to give advice by email on natalie@naturebureau.co.uk.

CARDINAL CLINIC CONFERENCE FOR YEAR 13 PSYCHOLOGY STUDENTS

A select group of Year 13 students hoping to study psychology at university had the privilege of attending a conference for health personell on current issues in clinical psychology. After the conference was opened by the mayoress, there were two interesting presentations on 'Sexual Abuse' and 'Eating Disorders'. Two police officers then gave a talk about 'Legal Highs' and the students were most interested in the large display of various drugs. It was certainly stimulating to hear about all the problems the NHS and the police experience as a result of these drugs. Having been treated to a splendid lunch they attended a 'Mindfullness' workshop and ended the conference with a workshop to look at the effect of social networking and the media on the youth of today. This was an excellent opportunity for the six students and will give them an insight to help with their personal statements for UCAS.
