Kelly's Coaching Corner
Why do Word Work?
Word work is a hands-on time to explore the spellings and/or meanings of words (vocabulary). Making time for word work is vital because it helps patterns and words move into long-term memory. Word work can help our learners become better readers, spellers, and writers.
Depending on our learners’ developmental stages, that we analyzed on Thursday, they might need help with Short Vowels, Digraph (sh, th, wh, ch), Initial Blend, Final Blend, Long Vowel Teams, R-Controlled Vowel, and Inflectional endings. Thank you for taking time to decide what area your group needs urgent support in and intentionally planning for their developmental stage. As we discussed, using the “Strategies and Skills by Level” for each group will make planning easy and doable. Thanks for working with me to plan this important piece. As always, let me know how I can support you!
