Phoenix News
Collegiate Academy at TCC Northeast
August 2, 2020
Phoenix Students and Families,
I am writing this newsletter on Friday, July 31 and you will probably have received updated information from the district regarding remote and in person GCISD learning and start dates. The information I am sharing will be the CA way, no matter when we start face to face or remote or both.
Virtual Learning at CA
All TCC NE classes will be online for the entire fall semester. CA Pathways teachers will be ready and available to help students navigate the TCC NE online classes. All high school classes will meet synchronously one time per week, but will be recorded if student is unable to attend. We will be using the CANVAS learning platform this year. We will discuss the learning platform the week of August 10 during our Class level parent meetings and we will provide additional training for interested parents.
CA in Person Learning
I suggested earlier that juniors or seniors should choose online, however, I have had many emails and phone calls from students wanting to attend in person for their Pathways class. Phoenix students, I'm thrilled that you want to come to school for one class! Remember though in person is not normal school. CA will be social distancing and classes will be much smaller to maintain a 6ft separation and there will be no hallway visiting or sitting, as our upperclassmen love to do!
All students In Person Learning will mean smaller class sizes, social distancing at all times and a much more supervised CA experience than normal. We want to make sure we do everything possible to keep students and staff safe.
Transportation
CA bus service is not a normal school bus route. It is a shuttle with 4 pick-up and drop-off points. In the past students were able to ride any bus and be picked up or dropped off at any location. This year to maintain social distancing and a clean healthy bus ride, students will need to choose a pick-up location and a drop-off location if they are using GCISD bus service. Students will be assigned a specific bus for their safety.
The pick - up and drop - off spots are:
GMS Athletic Field
Bridges/PDEC
Mustang/Panther Stadium
CHHS front driveway
If you have not registered with the district please do so TODAY. You will find the link below. However, I need every CA student to go to this link. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1mA9sU_XD_BJCuX0sSmab9Sw4SeLXa_4Vi8G8njxBG4I/edit
CA Student Requests for learning and transportation. and submit a form. Many Phoenix families have more than one student, so it will help us plan if we know each individual student's choice for learning and if they need bus service, where? Students you can have a different afternoon location than the morning, but it must remain the same this fall. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask. If possible please submit form by Tuesday, August 4. It will help us plan for you!!
The Phoenix Family is the best! I appreciate all of your encouragement and support! We are going to have a great year no matter what comes our way. We got this! Together we will be successful.
Always grateful,
Ms. Knutz

COLLEGE TEXTBOOKS
We are finalizing our plan with the TCC Bookstore, and it looks like we will be ordering materials online and having them shipped directly to students. I will be sending out ordering instructions to student email accounts around August 10.
Reminder: Please DO NOT order materials on your own; we have no way to make reimbursements for these kinds of purchases.

SCHOOL COUNSELOR CHRONICLES
2020 continues to be a very strange year, but unlike in the spring we are much more prepared for what will come next!
SCHEDULES
I've seen many of your questions about schedules and they will be updated in August. I know that's a disappointing response, but with all of the changes being made at TCC and the recent changes made this week, we still have some more hoops to jump through before the schedules are totally set.
PARCHMENT
If you're a senior graduating in the class of 2021 and you don't yet have a parchment account you can create one now or wait until the beginning of the school year and you can create it in your pathways class. Your updated transcript is already attached to your name in parchment, all you need to do now is create your account and you can begin requesting to send the transcripts to colleges.
