McGovern News
October 15, 2018
We had a terrific "Walk to School" Day on October 4, 2018. Many families joined our students and staff for the half mile trek from the VFW to McGovern School. This was such a fun way to start the day and remind students that there are many ways to include physical activity into your day. I would like to thank Mr. Shoenfelt for organizing this bi-annual event. In addition our Medway Police Department did a fabulous job as well.
Our teachers engaged in a day full of learning on October 9th. The energy and enthusiasm was contagious! Teachers engaged in the data cycle in the morning, which helped them better understand students' strengths and opportunities for growth. In the afternoon we were able to offer several workshops which allowed teachers to choose the focus for their learning.
Please see below for more updates and enjoy the larger photos that are included in this edition! The first is a picture of student art work on display at the Medway Library and the second is our new flexible seating in the McGovern library!

BOKS Before School Program
BOKS is returning to McGovern! BOKS is a program sponsored by Reebok that aims to give students a body and brain "boost" that sets them up for a successful day of learning. The program offers two before school sessions each week. Each session includes meeting and warm-up, free play, running-related activities, skill of the week, end of class game, cool down with a nutrition tip. Breakfast will be offered for $1.50.
The sessions are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8:00-8:45 AM. Our very own, Mrs. Warner will teach the class and the cost is $15 for 10 sessions.
I can't say enough positive things about this program and it's a great way for students to get their energy out before the school day starts. We had BOKS at my former school in Boston and students would often remark that their favorite school days were, "BOKS days!" I encourage you to consider this fantastic program for your child/children.
Nurse's Notes
Nurse’s Notes
As many of you know, schools in Massachusetts are mandated by the state to collect heights and weights of students in grades 1, 4, 7 and 10 for the purposes of BMI calculation. This screening will be done at the McGovern School during the month of November. If you do not want your child to participate, you may request so in writing by Thursday, November 1st. Please feel free to contact me to discuss the screening process.
A safety reminder during the Halloween season: Hard candy, lollipops, caramels and other treats, as well as cough drops and throat lozenges, place active children at risk for choking. Please refrain from sending these items to school with your child.
Thank you.
