Ms. Shockley's Class
Special iPad Edition
Our wonderful district office and board members have been so great to us! This year they have put an iPad in every classroom! We have worked so hard to use ours with the students and they love it!
World Read Aloud Day
We used our iPad for World Read Aloud Day to easily make videos and share with the school. Each student was paired up with a friend and we used our communication devices to share lines from various Dr. Seuss books. The iPad made it easier to email our videos so that we could read to the entire school for this important day.
Reflector
We are utalizing a technology in the classroom called Reflector. With this we can mirror the iPad on the computer and smartboard. When we do this, all students are able to see what is on the iPad. This is used daily in the classroom, as well as with speech.
News-O-Matic
Is one of our favorite new apps. We use reflector to watch our news every morning on the smartboard as a class. News-O-Matic provides us a way to keep up with the latest news by listening to stories, watching videos, viewing maps and learning new fun facts.
Brainhive
Brainhive is an app that we can check out ebooks on and enjoy in the classroom. Thanks to Mrs. Cox, we have free credits that we can use to read these books. Our 6th grade readers have been reading these books off of the iPad to our students . Again, we utilize reflector so that the book is easily seen by all on the smartboard.
Aurasma
We had fun playing with augmented reality again with our iPad. We worked on coloring and gluing flowers to decorate our walls with. When finished, we used the Aurasma app to video our students with their communication devices saying "Bring On Spring". When you hold the iPad over the flowers with the Aurasma app you can see their own personal videos.
Research and Chatterpix
Yes, even we do research! We went to the library one day to work with the helpers. They read each of us a page from The World In Infographics books. After that, they helped us find a picture on the internet that related to the topic, opened the app Chatterpix and drew a mouth on that picture. They also recorded one of our facts for the picture to talk about that. After we were videoed sharing our work for everyone!
Three Ring
Ms. Shockley uses the app Three Ring with us almost every day! The app lets her video us while we are working to create digital portfolios. These are easy to share with our parents so they can see how hard we are working everyday!
Making Choices-ABA Apps
We have also used the iPad to work on choosing pictures. The iPad will tell us what picture to look for and then we try to find it. Mrs. Shockley will also reflect the apps on the smart board so that we can all see when others are making choices as well.
A Huge Thank You!
We want to say a HUGE Thank You to everyone in the district who helped making having iPads possible. We have only had our iPad for about a month now, but we have put it to very good use! We can't wait to see what fun we can have with them next!
