MHS Newsletter 2023-2024 Issue 1

The purpose of this newsletter is meant to provide you with information in regard to everything we have going on at MHS. Please feel free to reach out to your counselor or administrator should you have any questions.

Advanced/AP/IB course Drop Dates for grades 9 - 12

Students can get a drop from the counselor's office.

August 14: The first day students may request a drop form.

August 23: Deadline for to drop an Advanced/AP/IB course that does not have a level equivalent course.

August 31: Deadline for all drop forms to be completed and submitted for all Advanced/AP/IB courses.

House Bill 114 requires school districts to place students in a disciplinary alternative education program (DAEP) if caught with, selling or under the influence of a vape or e-cigarette within 300 feet of school property or at a school-sanctioned event.

*House Bill 114 includes 1st offense nicotine vapes.

MHS will NOT accept any Door Dash, Uber Eats, etc. deliveries for students. Deliveries of this kind will be turned away. MHS will not reimburse any charges incurred.

• The MISD dress/grooming code (see pg. 40-42) will be followed and enforced

• Go to the district website. The student handbook and student code of conduct can be found under the “Parents” Tab

• Common Dress Code Violations

• Hair Color: Hair will be of a natural color

• Shoes: “Shoes must be designed to be primarily worn outside the home and must not be house shoes or slippers.”

• Accessories: (see pg. 42)

• Students will “have no visible body piercings other than earrings. Prohibited body piercings include, but are not limited to, nose rings or facial piercings.”

• “Hats may not be worn in the building.”

As educational institutions must follow the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA), Google has educational restrictions on email accounts for students in kindergarten - 12th-grade. How this applies to Magnolia ISD is that Google prohibits the use of educational Google account (@mymisd.org) for use outside of the district.

It is recommended that high school students create a professional non-school-related email account that can be used for outside educational purposes. (We recommend Google as it allows for easy transfer of items from their school Google Drive to their personal Google Drive, upon graduation.) For example, if you have a student applying for scholarships using their @mymisd.org Google account, the information that is transmitted will not be sent and/or received.
