From the Principal
What a difference a week makes! I sincerely hope that if you were adversely effected by the recent winter storm that you are on the mend and road to recovery. Lamkin was very fortunate to have come through with no building, pipe, or other issues unlike many of our other district facilities. Students were all smiles and energetic coming back to school on Tuesday of last week and many had stories to tell of roasting marshmallows in the fireplace, building snowmen outside, wrapping up in blankets like tacos and just being COLD! We have lots to write about for sure!
We have an abundance of jackets, coats, gloves and lunchboxes in our lost and found area in the cafeteria. We are encouraging students to look there if they have lost items and would like to ask you to encourage them as well! Replacing those can be costly and the ones left behind are donated to a local charity at the end of the year.
We welcomed an additional 30+ students back to campus for the 3rd 9 weeks and are now up to 78% of our total enrollment that are face to face learners. Recently a survey was sent to all parents of Cy-Fair Connect students asking their thoughts of returning to campus. If you are a connect parent, please do take the time to answer the 2 questions that are in the survey so that we can get a better idea of our enrollment in the fall. Also, if you know of a parent of a PK aged child, please inform them about our wonderful PK program so they may consider applying for a spot next year. PK does have some qualifying restrictions as it is a federal program, however, many families meet those and enjoy our quality programming.
As you may have heard on the news, STAAR testing is still in our forecast. Our testing season actually begins next week with TELPAS and we recently closed the annual GT testing window. The first STAAR test will be for our 4th graders on April 6th in writing followed by our 3,4 5 testing week beginning May 11th. More information will be forthcoming of how STAAR will work this year as it will be different than years past.
As always, thank you all for your commitment to Lamkin, to the staff and of course to our students. Our community and parents have always been the best and are certainly most appreciated. We look forward to more normal times when all have access to our campus and we can visit in person once again. If you have any comments, concerns or praises please don’t hesitate to call the school, we will be happy to help in any way we can.
Texas Roadhouse Spirit Night
Lamkin spirit night is Monday, March 29 from 4:00-9:00. Enjoy 2 free kid’s meals with the purchase of 1 adult entrée’ and Lamkin will receive 15% of the total – it’s that easy! So mark your calendar and make plans not to cook. Curbside pick-up counts!
Remote Learning Days
To address the need for additional planning time for teachers, we have identified the following dates as remote learning days from home for all students: March 12, April 12, May 17
Contact your campus directly if there is a need to request on-campus learning at school for a student in Pre-K through 5th grade on these designated remote learning days.
Bring a Water Bottle
Please send your child with their own re-fillable water bottle every day. Lamkin does not have water fountains available for sanitary reasons, and does not have the resources to provide every student with a water bottle. Thank you for your help with this!
