Mar Vista Parent Newsletter

Week of April 19, 2021

Dear Families,

Thank you all for your help and support with getting students on campus in an efficient way. Over the past three days our arrival process took 15 minutes or less! As more and more families pre-screen students using the 5Star app, the process will be even faster.

Please remind your child of the plan for going home each day to avoid confusion. We recommend multiple safe routes to school that cut down on traffic. These include walking, bicycling, scootering or taking the bus. Please just make sure that if there are any changes to your plan that your child and his/her teacher knows so we can send them in the right direction!

There have been lots of fun activities and lessons over the past two weeks. I've seen everything from art and crafting to life science gardening and hands on math and science. Miss Risa's math was glow-in-the-dark today! So cool!! The students and teachers seem happy to be back together and learning as a community!

There are several important dates coming up, so I want to highlight those here:

-Read-a-Thon starts on Monday 4/19!!

-AquaSmart Assembly (Water Safety) 4/21 @ 9:45 am (Teachers will provide the link)

-Talent Show Application Deadline Postponed until 4/23

-Yearbooks can now be pre-ordered (see info below)

-MVPs Meeting is on Tuesday from 7-8:30 pm

-Board Meeting featuring Student of the Year is Wednesday from 6-8 pm

Thank you, families, for all you do!!!

Mr. J's Academic Coordinator Update

Hi, Families.

First off, I have to say how great it has been to see so many happy faces on campus. It has been so energizing for me to interact with all of the students. Please make sure your child has their ID badge ready, around their neck, when they arrive at school each day.

We just got news that the annual state assessment, referred to as the SBAC, will not need to be administered this year. This will allow teachers more time to focus on teaching the standards. We will continue using our MAP assessment data to monitor progress and to support student needs. The third administration of this assessment for the year will take place in the beginning of May.

Thank you to everyone that has sent in pictures for the spirit days! This is one way we are trying to maintain connection and community, so it is appreciated. This week is take a picture with your pet or stuffed animal day. Be sure to send it a picture to be featured on the Mar Vista News.

Students will be continuing unit 7 in our language arts curriculum, Benchmark, this week.

Spirit Theme: Take a picture with your pet or stuffy!

Take a pic with Rover or Whiskers! Or do you have a fish or a hamster? Maybe a pet snake or hermit crab. If you have a well-loved stuffed animal, that works too! It's all about the animal love this week. Send your photo over to Mr. J at to be featured in the Mar Vista News!

They purchased Zearn for us and I have to say it has been a HUGE support for my math program. I also appreciate the $400 classroom funds because I have been purchasing chapter book sets for my class. I also really appreciate Ashley continuing on being treasurer with her full time job. -Miss Risa
