November 5 Community Update
Vaccination Clinics Planned Throughout San Mateo County as CDC Recommends COVID-19 Vaccine for Children
School Board to Discuss Return of Volunteers on Campuses
The CDC recommendation comes one week after a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advisory panel recommended to the FDA emergency use authorization for the Pfizer vaccine in children 5-11 years old. Organizations in San Mateo County that had planned in anticipation, have started the vaccine roll-out.
Vaccination Events:
RCSD families have several options for vaccinating their children in San Mateo County, which include healthcare providers, pharmacies, and other county and community clinics. Families are also encouraged to visit the San Mateo County Health website for vaccination events throughout the County. The San Mateo County Office of Education has also compiled this list of upcoming vaccination opportunities.
RCSD Vaccination Clinic:
RCSD will host a vaccination clinic on Thursday, November 18 at Hoover Community School. While all appointment slots have already been filled, RCSD is working with partners to secure 500 more doses or to possibly hold a second event later this winter. Families and employees are encouraged to be on the lookout as the district will communicate any future opportunities.
Families who were able to secure a spot yesterday for the vaccination clinic at Hoover are encouraged to print, fill out, and bring the consent form attached at the bottom of this message. The form will also be available at the event. All families will need to turn in a consent form in order for the child to be vaccinated.
Children who receive their first dose on November 18 will be able to come back to Hoover Community School for their second dose on Thursday, December 9. Hoover Community School is located at 701 Charter St. in Redwood City.
Education Resources:
San Mateo County Health hosted a webinar yesterday evening in which local pediatricians answered parent questions about the vaccine. The event was held in Spanish and simultaneous interpretation in English was provided. A similar event took place last week in English with Spanish simultaneous interpretation. Recordings of both events follow below.

Volunteers on School Campuses:
As children start to be vaccinated in San Mateo County, RCSD will start to welcome volunteers back to school campuses via a phased-in systemic process. Volunteers are currently not allowed on RCSD campuses in an effort to keep students safe as they did not qualify yet for the vaccine.
District staff will update the RCSD Board of Trustees on the process that will be implemented as the district welcomes back parent and community volunteers who provide support to students, teachers, and staff in a variety of opportunities.
The report to the School Board will take place during the upcoming Wednesday, November 10 School Board meeting. The agenda and instructions on how to join the virtual meeting will be posted here.
The Roadmap to Learning Safely During My New School Year updates is a service of the RCSD Department of Communications in collaboration with district administrators leading COVID response to keep the RCSD community informed in 2021-22. The RCSD community is encouraged to visit the Roadmap to Learning Safely During My New School Year page on the school district’s website as new guidance provided to RCSD will be uploaded as soon as it becomes available.
