Van Brunt Newsletter
March 2018 Edition
A Note from the Principal
It's hard to believe March is here already!! The warmer weather has been welcome as it has helped dry up the water on the playgrounds. It almost felt like spring was here for a few days! Please keep an eye on the weather so your child is dressed appropriately for recess.
This is certainly going to be a busy and fun month. We are looking forward to seeing you at conferences on March 8th or 13th. Please take advantage of this opportunity to meet with your child's teacher. Open communication is key to your child's success and we value your insight and input.
The art and science fair and 5th and 6th grade music concert are coming up on March 20th. These are wonderful ways your child can share their gifts with others! We hope you can join us for these events.
Students in grades three through six will be participating in the Wisconsin Forward Exam. This state assessment will begin the week of March 19th. Your child's teacher will share a schedule with you as we get closer. A flyer will be shared at conferences.
We are so proud of the continued hard work from our students and staff. So much learning is happening everyday at Van Brunt. We are looking forward to a great month and learning and growing together.
As always, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Lisa Sawyer
Van Brunt Principal
Parent Teacher Conferences
SPRING CONFERENCES
Teachers will be scheduling conferences with all students this spring. Conferences will be held on March 8th and 13th from 4:00 - 7:30. If you do not yet have a conference scheduled, please contact your child's teacher. This is an important time to discuss the progress your child has made this year and goals for the final quarter.

Kaylee Vick
My name is Miss Vick. This is my second year teaching at Van Brunt and my 9th year teaching. I love working at Van Brunt because it is a small community and I love being able to connect with families. On my free time, I enjoy spending time with my almost 11 month old daughter Kynzlee and soon to be husband Jeff. I also enjoy spending time with my nephew Jackson and niece Avery. We enjoy spending time as a family exploring new restaurants, sights and enjoy just being busy.

Katie Curry
This is my eighth year teaching in Horicon. I enjoy getting to know all my students and watching all of their growth throughout the year. In my free time, I love spending time with my husband and son, going shopping, and reading!

Jennifer Gratton
My bachelor's degree is in early childhood/elementary education and I have had various experiences working with children with special needs over the past ten years. This is my third year working at Van Brunt. Seeing our students make progress is very rewarding! I live in Horicon with my husband and three children. I enjoy spending time with my family fishing, hiking, and camping. Our next adventure we have planned is a trip to Yellowstone National Park this coming summer.
Lori Schabel
I have been with the school district about 6 years. I love working with the special education children, seeing them master new skills. I feel like I am doing what I was put on this earth to do, helping people who a lot of times are misunderstood. In my spare time I like to read and put 1,000 piece puzzles together. I work in the local food pantry and help out in Milwaukee with homeless people.
Perfect Attendance Winners
PTO
The Horicon PTO Glow Bingo For Books was a huge success. We had over 120 people attend and over 30 winners walk away with new books! We had so much fun that we hope to make this an annual event!
The new Box Top For Education bulletin board is up and the teachers are skiing, snowboarding or bobsledding down the hill. We will have to wait and “ski” which class can collect the most Box Tops this quarter. There is still plenty of time left, so please keep sending in Box Tops!
Have you ever thought about being on the PTO board? We will be holding nominations soon and would love for you to join! Please contact HoriconPTO@yahoo.com for more information.
