A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Good Afternoon Navigator Students and Families,


This is Principal Marissa Cervantes. The start of the new school year is tomorrow! We are all very much looking forward to seeing and working with all of you. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.


  • Students who have requested a device may pick one up on campus until 6 p.m. today. Remember, this pick-up is only for students without a district device or a home computer. If you did not request a device, please email Cece.johnson@venturausd.org and she will get one ready for you to pick up ASAP. At this time, we only have enough for those who requested a device through the Family Intentions Survey.
  • Student schedules will be available to view in Q at 3 pm today. Students who need changes to their schedule (course changes only - no teacher changes) must email their alpha aligned counselors A-L Basilio.Gonzales@venturausd.org and M-Z Jennifer.Durkee@venturausd.org with the following information: Student Name, ID Number, Reason for the change (Example: I have two PE classes, I am in the wrong level of music, etc.) Counselors will respond within 24 hours. Please attend all scheduled classes until counselor contact is made.
  • Welcome emails from teachers with Zoom codes for class will be sent beginning at 3 p.m. through the evening for all class periods.
  • Rest of the Week August 18-21: August 18th - First day of school and online class meetings (all online)
  • In Class Orientation activities in Canvas (all online) - your teachers will provide you with directions for this.
  • Students will attend live Zoom class meetings with their teachers following their class schedule. Schedule is modified for the first week.

  • Los estudiantes que hayan solicitado una computadora portatil pueden recoger una en la escuela hasta las 6 p.m. hoy. DISTANCE LEARNING SCHEDULES

Fall 2020 will be conducted through full distance learning. There will however be live teaching that will take place at scheduled times. In addition to the structured opportunities/teaching, there will be flexibility if students are unable to get on at the scheduled time.


Specific student schedules will be shared on QStudent Connect & QParent Connect.

Mr. Cota

Hello DATA family. My name is Mr. Ricardo Cota and I am humbled to be your new Assistant Principal. I look forward to meeting and working with you. I previously taught at Isbell Middle School and was the Assistant Principal at Anacapa Middle School. On the weekends, I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter. I'm also a die hard sports fan. Let's make it a great year Navigators!

DATA Counselors will not be available for meetings on the first day of school, they will be out of their office greeting the students and helping with their first day of school. If your child is placed in the wrong academic courses (math, science, language arts, social studies) please make an appointment online, send an email, or leave a voicemail for them to contact you.
