From the Director
Dear CDS Community,
What an incredible year 2019-20 has been! It came with difficulties that none of us could have anticipated or prepared for, and yet, like our school mascot the Phoenix, each of us found the strength to R.I.S.E. and meet the challenges of e-learning during a global pandemic.
Although we were all saddened by the impact of COVID-19 and its effect on our school year, I am so proud of the way each of you continued to show up and engage in virtual spaces with creativity, kindness, and a deep commitment to your learning. I speak for all teachers when I say how much we missed seeing your smiling faces on campus this year!
As most of you know, I will be leaving my position as Director of Middle School and returning to the United States. It has been an incredible honor and privilege serving you and the CDS community for the last six years.
Ms. Montelibano will take over in leading the middle school division. Since the moment she arrived two years ago, Ms. Montelibano has demonstrated extraordinary leadership and an unwavering commitment to the growth and success of all CDS students. In addition to overseeing important initiatives like "Flex Time," she has been instrumental over the last several months in planning and organizing exemplary e-learning for your children. She brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role, and I’m certain she will do excellent work guiding the future of CDS Middle School.
Ms. Montelibano will be working closely with Mr. Jason Baker who will serve as our Middle School Coordinator. Mr. Baker joined the middle school this year from the First Program where he taught 4th grade for five years and supported Mr. Hill (First Program Director) with a variety of programs and events such as Battle of the Books, girls soccer, and 4th grade graduation ceremonies. Already beloved by middle school students, Mr. Baker knows and understands our culture well and will work diligently to support the growth and development of CDS Middle School in this new role.
Have a wonderful summer and I wish you all the very best in the future!
Best regards,
Mr. Scoville

Welcome to CDS
Hello everyone, :-) My name is You Jin, and I am a new MS assistant starting from the next school year. I spent 10 years in the United States and 1 year in England. For the last three years, I lived in Boston and recently moved back to Korea. I am happy to be back home and so excited to be a part of CDS team! I studied Design Management and Design Thinking from my graduate school in England. Learning the cases of how creative design changes our society and further, improve our lives was the most interesting part of my study. As you can see, I have spent most of my career working in Design and Marketing areas, but I have always had a passion for working in the field of Education. I am excited to start a new chapter of my career. I really look forward to getting to know everyone. Hope to see you all in August. Stay safe and healthy!!

Summer Reading
CDS encourages all students to spend time reading for enjoyment over the summer.
Reading helps us to clarify our personal values, deepen our sense of empathy and justice, and helps us respect different points of view. It's probably the single most important habit you can develop in middle school!
Research shows that students who read (even a little bit) each day show significant vocabulary growth, greater reading comprehension, understanding of grammar, and general knowledge of the world.
We want all our students to become habitual, devoted, thoughtful, intelligent readers and summer is great time to get started!
For those who like to stay informed, I recommend reading an article a day on Newsela (which all MS students should have access to). For other suggestions, click the button below.
