HELLO FALCON FAMILIES!
One of the most amazing things about McNear is the active and resourceful volunteer community. We moved here from Michigan 11 years ago and were blown away by Petaluma in general, and again by McNear Elementary when my oldest daughter started kindergarten a few years later.
What we have here is special. I have seen parents rushing to get to the signup sheet for classroom volunteer days so they can get the best slots. There are too many volunteers for many field trips to allow all the parents to attend. Recent programs like TIDE and MASC addressed areas that creative parents saw as shortfalls in our community, and they quickly became reality.
Our performing arts program is unparalleled in town, thanks to Donnie and an army of parent volunteers braver than me. The garden program, Harvest Carnival, a Student Advisor position to help kids directly onsite, and too many more programs to mention are all part of what make our school unique.
This year is going to look different. And we don't yet know exactly how, as conditions and recommendations are always changing. But your PTA is here to support you and your family in any way we can. Some of our favorite programs will be postponed for now, and some will be remote instead. Stay tuned for updates soon as we are still creating our calendar and finalizing our budget for the school year.
We are working hard to find ways to keep our kids connected to the school and their friends. We anticipate remote options for free After School Enrichment classes (watch for a call for volunteers soon). We are also considering adjustments to other programs to keep them safe for everyone. Let us know if you have some ideas or want to volunteer. (Don't worry, we'll ask you again!)
One thing that won't change this year is the caring community of McNear. Teachers, parents, grandparents, all supporting our students and families. We have survived fires, shut down our schools for smoke days, and weathered power shutdowns. We will be creative and we will get through this, and we will even have some fun. Our kids are amazing and so are all of you!
