Re-Entering School IN- PERSON beginning October 1
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL-
Greetings Viking Parents, Students and Community,
The Orange Unified School District has announced that schools will begin a phased reopening process for middle school beginning Thursday, October 1st. The information below includes dates for returning to school by alpha and grade level, bell schedules, FAQs, and information for a parent information session hosted by Mrs. Ogan on Thursday, September 24 at 6:00 PM. We are all excited about the opportunity to reopen Cerro Villa Middle School for on-campus learning but we will be sure that we do it safely and cautiously. I greatly appreciate your patience and flexibility as we work through developing all of the plans and procedures necessary to make our reopening a success for everyone.
Also, please be sure to watch the latest video from Dr. Hansen regarding the reopening of schools:

Teacher Planning Time for Phase 2
Classes will be on a minimum day schedule from Friday, 9/25, Monday, 9/28, Tuesday, 9/29 & Wednesday, 9/30. Please use the below schedule for these dates:
Middle School students who are returning for on-campus instruction will be divided into two cohorts based on last name. (Cohorts are consistent with VPHS)
Cohort A: Last Name begins with A - Lo. Students will attend on-campus instruction Monday and Tuesdays.
On the days that students are not at school, teachers will live stream their lessons and students will continue to learn virtually at home. All students will be virtual on Wednesdays. Students who are remaining on Distance Learning will continue with the same schedule (doing so from home) five days a week.
Cohorts have been created to limit class size. If you have a compelling reason to request a change in cohort, please contact Mrs. Morrison, Assistant Principal, mmorrison@orangeusd.org. We will do our best to accommodate, however, due to social distancing guidelines and class sizes, some requests may be not possible.
Dates to Begin On-Campus Instruction
8th Cohort B: Thursday, October 1st
7th Cohort B and 8th Cohort B: Friday, October 2nd
8th Cohort A: Monday, October 5th
7th Cohort A and 8th Cohort A : Tuesday, October 6th

Birthday Message
Do you have a birthday you would like to showcase? If you would like to see it in lights, we are personalizing your students’ special day on our marquee. Please contact Student Services at (714) 997-6251 for details and to reserve your date.
Free Money
We call it “Free Money” since often we are able to get donations from sources outside of our Cerro Villa families! This often enables us to earn money for CV just by shopping or by getting matching funds for money that we were going to donate anyway. It’s a great way to earn additional money for our school!
Did you know that when you do your shopping with Amazon you could be giving back to Cerro Villa? By going to https://org.Amazon.com and specifying “Cerro Villa PFSO” our school could be getting cash every time you shop!
Does your workplace offer a donation matching program? Some companies offer dollar-for-dollar matching funds for employee charitable donations. The Cerro Villa PFSO is a 501(c)3 organization and could qualify for your employers matching funds! If you have any questions contact your Human Resources department or contact the CV PFSO at cvpfso@gmail.com.

OUSD Bully Prevention Handbook 2019-2020
Free Public Education
Section 5 of Article IX of the California Constitution guarantees students a “free and appropriate public education”. The State Supreme Court concluded in the 1984 case of Hartzell v. Connell, “that all educational activities carried on by public school districts, extracurricular as well as curricular, must be without cost to the students who participate in such activities”. This same ruling found that “mandatory fees for participating in such extra-curricular activities as drama, music, and athletic competition were illegal under the State constitution”. Furthermore, the State Supreme Court also rejected the argument that “fees could be charged as long as the district waived fees for students who were financially unable to pay”. I would like to assure you that Cerro Villa Middle School does not engage in a “pay for play” system.
