Newman Catholic Community @ RIT
April 26, 2015 + Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time
RIT Nation
A committee of four students and I have just completed putting together a constitution for the Newman Catholic Community here at RIT. Beginning Saturday, you will be able to find the proposed constitution on the Newman website http://www.ritnewman.com Please take a look at it because we are ready to begin the process of electing officers for the 2015-2016 year.
Beginning Monday, April 27, you can nominate another or self-nominate for the positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Chair of Community Life, Chair of Service and Outreach, Chair of Freshman Welcoming and Outreach, Chair of Spirituality and Liturgy, Chair of Media and Communications and Chair of Collaboration with NTID.
If you are interested in the positions of President, Vice-President or Secretary, you will need to be on-campus next academic year (not on co-op or study abroad). If you are on co-op or study abroad either fall or spring semester, you can still hold a leadership position as a committee chairperson. You will note co-op/study abroad status on your application and two chair persons will be elected and they will serve as co-chairs for that year. The candidates with the two top votes will hold the position.
You can find descriptions of each of the leadership positions in the constitution. Again, the link to our website is http://www.ritnewman.com
If you would like to nominate someone or nominate yourself, please do so in writing (email is sufficient) to Samantha Abraham - the Election Chair - at sma5860@rit.edu and you will be sent an application to complete. Names will not be on the ballot unless an application is returned. All applications need to be returned to the Newman Office or Samantha Abraham by Friday, May 8th at 6 pm.
Elections will take place from 10 am Sunday, May 10 through 9 pm Wednesday, May 13. You can vote at weekend Masses or by stopping at the Newman office in the Center for Religious Life from 9 am - 6 pm.
Think about leadership in our community. We are all needed to build a strong Newman Community.
Have a great week. Peace my friends.

Blessing of the Brains
Wednesday, May 13, 2015 @ 8:30 p.m.
What is Blessing of the Brains?
The night before reading day the Newman Community will offer "Blessing of the Brains". Bring your friends, gather with others who would like to "pull it together" before finals. The simple candlelight prayer service is one way to help slow down the cycle of anxiety that often accompanies final exams. It's a great way to "catch your breath" before heading into the end of the semester. Blessing of the Brains will last about 30 minutes, giving lots of time to head over to Gracie's for the Late Night Breakfast. All are welcome!
Looking for a break from a long day?
SCRIPTURE REFLECTION ON THURSDAY EVENINGS AT 6:30 PM
Scripture Reflection takes a peek at the readings for the upcoming weekend and helps us to understand them a bit before arriving at Mass and thinking, "what was that reading all about?"
Scripture Reflection meets in the Sun Room of the Center for Religious Life on Thursday evenings from 6:30 - 7:30 pm.
Our next NEWMAN NIGHT dinner will be Sunday, May 3 after the 5 pm Mass.
Sign up after Mass so we have a count for dinner.
