Struggling with a class? Follow these steps, and let us support you!
- Set up an appointment to meet with the teacher one-on-one
- Attend multiple intervention/tutoring opportunities with the classroom teacher (this can be accomplished by requesting one-on-one Google Meets with the teacher during asynchronous sessions so you can get assistance with any content/tasks that you are struggling with).
- Discuss your concerns with your school counselor
- Requests a parent / teacher conference to include parent, student, teacher, and counselor.
Registration for all 9th - 11th grade students will begin at LHS starting April 12th and run through April 30th. If during this time period, your child does not meet with his/her counselor on zoom, we will continue to work on registration throughout May and June.
The Forrest Career & Technology Center is happy to report that they have completed the first round of acceptances to their programs and electives for applications that were submitted by the February 19th deadline. Students who have been accepted were notified through their school email between March 15th and March 19th. Students who have not yet been accepted will be placed on a waiting list, ranked by score, and will be continually adjusted as seats become available until September 3rd. Students may continue to submit applications and will be placed on the waiting list. Specific questions can be directed to techcenter@smcps.org.
Scheduling Information:
The LHS School Counselors will be meeting with 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students via Zoom between 4/12 and 4/30 to enter their course requests for next school year. Students will be scheduled for a specific date and time to log on to Zoom for their scheduling meeting. Their English teachers will post the dates/times of their students’ meetings, as well as the Zoom links on their Schoology pages.
By Friday, 4/9, teachers will have entered course recommendations for their students’ next year courses and we encourage our students to log into HAC to review this information prior to their meeting with their school counselors. The school counselors have also created Google Slides presentations to keep our students informed and the links to each of them can be found here:
Current 9th grade presentation-Video and Current 9th presentation with active links
Current 10th grade presentation-Video and Current 10th presentation with active links
Current 11th grade presentation -Video and Current 11th presentation with active links
Please bear with us as we embark on a scheduling procedure that is quite different this year than in years past. If, during this time period, your son/daughter does not meet with his/her school counselor, we will reach out individually to conduct the scheduling discussion throughout May and June.
Need to meet with your counselor? Just complete our Virtual Counseling Form and we will schedule an appointment to see you.
Stressed out about college and the application process? Complete the Virtual Counselor Appointment and let us assist you.

Photography Contest
You have heard it again and again: this year has been like no other. Photographs have a way of telling a story when sometimes words can’t. There are many things missing from this past year and we have all had to adapt and make changes to the way that we live our lives. That is what we want you, our student photographers, to capture. Please see guidelines for the contest HERE. All student artists whose photos are chosen for publications will be entered into a drawing for a free yearbook! Entries are due April 16.
Pictures Needed
We are in need of pictures for some of our spreads! This list has been updated to reflect our most recent needs! Click here for specifics regarding what pictures we still need. Please upload pictures directly to our Yearbook website using ReplayIt or send pictures to Mrs. Page. Please do not submit screenshots of pictures or pictures with filters. Please make sure all students featured in the pictures are identified with first and last name and grade level.
Portraits for Virtual Students and Hybrid Learners Who Missed Portrait Days
Please look for information in the next newsletter about how to submit a picture for the portrait section!
Literacy Corner
April is National Poetry Month, and Leonardtown High School is celebrating by highlighting our creative student poets!
Students - Please submit your original poems to Ms. Bridges (kjbridges@smcps.org) by April 23rd. The poems should be on the topic of hope (it's spring, after all - a time of renewal).
All submissions will be published in the LHS Imprint, and the top poem/poet will be featured on LTV and receive a prize. Additional guidelines can be found here.
