October 24, 2022
Last week, I had the opportunity to spend time with our kindergarteners as they learned about the zones of regulation. Specifically, they were focused on what it feels like to be in the green zone, when you are happy, focused, calm and/or proud. It was enlightening to hear them talk about what helps them get into the green zone, which is the zone in which they are ready to learn. Many of them drew pictures of their parents, family members, or friends they enjoy spending time with - one student drew himself on a trampoline with his siblings, another drew herself outside in a field of flowers with her mom. It was clear from this activity that students, similar to adults, are often “recharged” in the time they spend at home doing things they love and/or spending time with people they love. Thank you for supporting our students’ social and emotional well being at home! They wrapped up this lesson by talking about strategies they can use at school to get back into the green zone if they aren’t ready to learn. I look forward to watching our students continue to grow in their self awareness of their emotions and apply the strategies they are learning in real time.
Most Sincerely,
Steffany Jewell
