State Testing Continues (Gr 3-8)

This week, grade 3-8 students will continue assessments as part of California's state testing program.

There are important preparations that students and families can do to ensure students are prepared to do their best. All students should do the following:

  • Bring their Chromebook FULLY CHARGED to school
  • Get a good night's rest
  • Eat a good breakfast
  • Arrive at school on time

Parents can also help by encouraging their children to do their best! Encourage your child to do their best on every item and not to give up. Students can get partial credit for multi-step problems by doing what they can on each question!

Most ELA and Math assessments will be completed this week. Science and make-up tests will continue to be administered throughout May. Thank you for your support in ensuring your child does his/her best on the state assessments!

  • For families who would like to eat at the fair, we will have two dinner options (Tacos Galacticos and pizza) and one dessert option (Cool Cow Scoops).
  • We are accepting donations for candy and sticker prizes from Monday-Thursday this week. Every donation helps!

We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Malala Fund

Global Learning Charter School strives to incorporate Global Competencies through curriculum and activities. This year most of our grades 5/6 students read the book, I Am Malala written by Malala Yousufzai. This book taught the students about life and culture in Pakistan during the reign of the Taliban and the affect they had on girls' education. The students were inspired by Malala's work in advocating for girls' education around the world and wanted to do something to help. We have a goal of raising $250 for the Malala Fund. We created a fundraising page through the organization. Please visit our booth at the World's Fair to learn more and donate. You can donate anytime by going to our page by clicking HERE. This is one way we can all contribute to advocating for quality education on a global level. Thank you!

HEART Offering UTK for 2022-23

If you have a student who will be attending GLC next year as part of our new transitional kindergarten (UTK) program, the HEART program will also be serving this age group. HEART applications for the 2022-23 school year are available in the front office.

Enrollment for 2022-23

We are continuing to accept applications for the 2022-23 school year. If space is not available in your child’s grade, she/he will be placed on a waiting list by grade level. Seats will be offered on a first-come, first-serve, basis. If you have friends or family who may be interested in attending GLC, please share this information with them. While we have waitlists at some grade levels, we currently have a few openings for grades 3-4. Applications are available on our website and in our front office.

Expanding access to Transitional Kindergarten

For the 2022-23 school year, the state of California is expanding access to transitional kindergarten programs. Students who will turn five by February 2nd, 2023, are eligible to enroll in universal transitional kindergarten (UTK). This is a new optional grade that precedes Kindergarten. Parents may opt to enroll their child in preschool or UTK. If you have a child who will turn 5 by 2/2/23 and would like her/him to attend GLC, please complete an Enrollment Requiest Form. More information about GLC's UTK program to come soon!
