Preschool News
Dear Families and Friends,
This week we will finish our Clothes Study and our focus question is "What special types of clothing do people wear?" We will be brainstorming and discussing the special clothes that people in certain jobs wear and why they are important. We will be focusing on Community Helpers – their roles in our community and the special clothing and equipment they need to perform their job and stay safe.

First Grade News
Ms. Lawton's first grade class would like to thank all of our local veterans for visiting Green Meadow last week. The students absolutely loved the visit with the veterans. They were engaged and had fantastic questions.
Third Grade News
Dear Families of Room 6b,
I was quite surprised to not be in school today, but it sounds like the safe choice was made. I hope that your 3rd grader may have used today to work on their social studies project. Seeing as I was home, I put up some hooks in our garage for organization and built a shelf for hats and gloves near our front door. These projects were kind of assigned to me by my wife!
Math: We are nearing the end of our first chapter on multiplication, and next week we will begin the second chapter. In this next chapter the students will learn and practice specific facts. We have learned several strategies for solving multiplication problems - ask your child about strategies they have learned (skip counting, drawing a picture, repeated addition).
Writing: All of the students are working through the writing process for their realistic fiction stories. We have learned about different components that go into good writing. Some of these components include action, dialogue, character thought, and description of characters and setting. We have also learned about using hyperbole (purposeful exaggeration), crafting interesting beginnings, and how to correctly use quotation marks when characters are talking.
Pilgrim/Wampanoag Letters: We were all set to soak many of our letters in tea water today (to age them), but that will have to wait until next week. Ask your 3rd grader about the letters that we have been working on at school.
Social Studies Project: Just a reminder that the projects students are working on are due in school on or before November 23rd . I look forward to seeing what the students create! We will share them in class on the Tuesday they are due (11/23), and students will have a chance to ask each other questions about the projects that were created.
Conferences: Conferences are coming up during the first full week of December. I will send out individual Google Meet links the week of Thanksgiving. You will need to use the specific link I share to get into the conference. If you have not yet signed up for a conference, use this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0a45aaa92cab9-3rdgrade1
Reading Groups: We have been plowing through books during our WINN time each day. We began with nonfiction books, but have switched over to fiction. Have your child fill you in on the book they are reading in their group. Students meet with myself or another teacher for reading during our WINN time block.
Upcoming Dates:
November 23rd – Projects related to our field trip to Plimoth/Patuxet are due
November 24th – 26th – No school for Thanksgiving Break
December 1st – 3rd – Conferences on Google Meet
Sincerely,
3rd Grade Team Leader

Holiday Shoppe 2021
As a holiday tradition, the GM PTO is again sponsoring the Holiday Shoppe, a gift-purchasing event for the children. The event gives children the opportunity to purchase a special gift for their family. This event is for Green Meadow students in grades K-3 only.
This year, the Holiday Shoppe will run on Saturday, December 4th at the Boys and Girls Club from 10am-5pm. It will not be during school hours. Due to this new approach, all children wanting to participate will need to sign up for a 15 minute time slot. Parents will bring their child(ren) to the club at their designated time slot and then wait in the car while their child(ren) shop. Volunteers will be there to shop with your child(ren) and bring them back to your car when completed.
Please Note: Due to high interest and limited open slots for safety, time slots are on a first come, first serve basis. The PTO cannot guarantee a slot.
Click on the following link to secure a time-slot. Make sure to sign-up each of your children for a timeslot, not yourself! (Holiday Shoppe Registration - Click Here!)
Once signed up, envelopes with details for shopping will be sent home in backpacks the Thursday before the event!
Please Note:
· COVID-19 Protocol: Unfortunately the holiday shoppe is only open one day this year. If your child is sick, has had any covid exposure or is participating in the test and stay program on the Thursday or Friday prior to the shoppe day - your child is not permitted to come to the shoppe. This is important to keep everyone safe!
· Gift Limit is 6: Due to time limitations, there is a maximum of 6 gifts per child.
· We Need Volunteers: This event would not be possible without the help of our volunteers. Please help keep this tradition going by signing up for a time slot. We need parents to shop with kids as well as do simple wrapping (put items in bags)! (Volunteer Sign-Up - Click Here! We are looking for donations of tape and bows that can be dropped off in the Green Meadow Lobby in the bin

Parking Reminder
We once again ask that you please be mindful of our “no parking” marked lines on both sides of the Crowe Park lot. There have been vehicles blocking the pathways for walking.
Also, there have been vehicles parked in the staff lot both during the morning drop off and afternoon pickup times.
The police have been notified as this creates a hazardous condition for both staff and students.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
