Ridgeway RAP September 17, 2021
Phone (573)214-3550 ~ Fax (573)214-3551
Over the next few weeks in the RAP, we are going to introduce you to Ridgeway staff members. This week, we are featuring our office staff, Angie Kome and Jami Miller. When you call Ridgeway, you will most likely talk to one of them.
Mrs. Kome
This is my fourth year as Secretary to the Principal/Registrar. I started working for CPS back in 2011 here in the Ridgeway Media Center. I have also worked at both Battle and Hickman High School before settling back home at Ridgeway. I am originally from California (the state) and have lived in Columbia for the last 19 years. I have a 20-year-old daughter, a 17-year-old son, two cats, and am the proud wife of a Columbia Fire Department Captain. I love to read, camp, and spend time with my family. Looking forward to a great year!
Mrs. Miller
My name is Jami Miller, and I am the new Attendance Secretary. My husband and I recently moved to Columbia from Central Illinois, where I was an elementary school secretary for 14 years. We have a son and daughter-in-law who live in Jefferson City. We also have a daughter who attends Southern Illinois University, who will be getting married in December. I enjoy reading and rooting for the Cardinals and the Blues. We have three Boston terriers - Sadie, Bandit, and Baxter. I am very excited to be here at Ridgeway!

Unit B
Unit C
Mr. Gramke teaches Social Studies for all Unit C students.
In Social Studies, we are starting our study of the United States right here in Columbia. Hopefully, you’ve noticed your child/ren asking about your address, neighborhood, phone numbers, email address, etc… I did this for a couple of reasons. First, I believe that kids who know their personal information by heart are safer. Second, I’m attempting to tie the physical world, through maps, to their place in it. As we progress through the year, we will study our country's map throughout its development, and having a pulse for their place may inspire them to pay a little closer attention.
Unit C Reminder – Please encourage your child to read for 30 minutes each night.
Ridgeway Ram Flu Vaccine Clinic
Thursday, September 30
The 2021 influenza vaccine (flu shot) will be offered to students at Ridgeway Elementary.
For your child to be vaccinated, you must have completed an electronic form as part of the annual registration update, or return a completed and signed consent form to the school nurse. A form is attached to this newsletter. You do not need to complete the form if you did the electronic permission form.
A Note From PTSA
There is still time to order Ridgeway gear for your student and even family!
There is still time to order Ridgeway gear for your student and even family! This year is a Signature Year - a Ridgeway tradition that happens every 2 years. What that means is that while the front of the shirt will have the awesome Ridgeway Ram logo, the back will include the signatures of ALL the students at Ridgeway. Signatures have already been collected and you can see a sample below. Students enjoy finding their names and seeing them displayed as they advance through each unit. Order online https://www.maskedyowi.com/ridgeway-elementary until September 30th.

A message from Mrs. Renaud - Art
I have the privilege of stepping into the position of art teacher at Ridgeway this year. I come from Centralia with 8 years of experience teaching visual art and culture. The Ridgeway Rams have welcomed me into their home, and I am excited to share the year with them!
This year in art, we will work as artists in our art studio. We will learn how to think critically and creatively, how to problem solve, and how to work together as a community. Artists will also be learning and using art words, such as portfolio and studio as we’ve learned these first two weeks of school.
We began our first art project with a watercolor workshop in which all artists, Unit A through C, explored the medium. How does it move? Can I control it? What happens when I mix colors? Next week, our artists will consider the term studio and create architectural drawings of their dream workspace. Perhaps a tree-top studio, a studio in space, or a court-side studio. I will be eager to see what our artists come up with.
When talking about art with your child, ask “What’s going on in this picture?” or “Tell me about your picture”. This phrasing can be helpful in opening a conversation about artwork, rather than playing the guessing game of what it is!
