Health & Safety: COVID-19 Symptoms
The School Nurse will be notified by a student’s teacher or by a staff member if an individual with COVID-like symptoms is coming to the health room.
The nurse will meet the ill student or staff member outside the Health Room to take the individual’s temperature and assess all symptoms. If the individual presents with fever (>100.4°F) and/or symptoms suggesting a possible respiratory illness, the individual will be given a mask. The nurse will isolate students with COVID-like symptoms by sitting the student behind a curtain with a mask on, until a parent/guardian arrives, to decrease the risk of spreading illness. Staff will be asked to cautiously leave the building with a mask in place in order to decrease the risk of spreading illness.
The individual will be referred for follow-up with a licensed medical provider (MD/DO/NP) or the local health department. The nurse will encourage the parent/guardian or staff member to report symptoms to their provider, allowing the provider to make an informed choice regarding testing. The nurse will send home and review with the parent/guardian or staff member the “Student Respiratory Illness Guidelines” that outline Park Hill School District’s protocol for returning to school following a respiratory illness and/or a positive or presumptive case of COVID.
Return to School Guidelines
The following return to school guidelines will be used for a student/staff member sent home by the school nurse.
District guidelines state that during the continuation of the COVID-19 pandemic, a student with respiratory illness that exhibits COVID-19 symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath, etc.) must meet the following to return to school:
- Must be fever free (less than 100.4) for a minimum of 72 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.
- Must have an improvement in other COVID symptoms
- May be asked to stay out of school at least 10 days after symptoms first appeared
- May be asked to provide documentation from a licensed health care provider stating clearance to return to school.
Random Renner Requirements
- Breakfast will not be in the cafeteria like it has been in the past. If your child wishes to eat a school provided breakfast, they will do so in their classroom. This is new for our Roadrunners, so please, share this information with your child prior to Summer School beginning on July 1.
- During lunch, the students will only be allowed to sit on one-side of the lunch tables, marked with a blue "x" approximately separated 3 feet apart. This will help prevent the spread of germs (coughing, sneezing) across the lunch tables towards each other.
- Students may not self-serve during lunch. The Lunchroom Staff will assist students in selecting the items the students want for them.
- Parents are sadly not allowed to bring in outside food into the school building. This means parents cannot eat lunch with their child(ren).
- There can be no birthday treats allowed during Summer School.
- Recess will be done in shifts. There will not be anymore than 1 grade-level outside at a time. During recess, the students in each class will be expected to play within their recess 'zones', which will be marked by cones, outside on the playground. The students may play kickball, basketball, catch, 4-square, etc. However, they must play those games within their zone for that specified recess period. Each recess period, the classes will switch zones. This is to also help reduce the number of students in a populated area, which will decrease the amount of germs being spread. The Lunchroom/Playground Staff will sanitize the equipment after each class leaves the playground.
- The classroom desks will be separated to help prevent the spread of germs. If a classroom does not have desks, and has tables instead, those students sitting at tables will be separated.
- Face Masks- students may wear face masks if they wish. It is not a mandate or requirement. The same rule applies to all Summer School staff as well.
- Buses- the bus drivers will sanitize all bus seats prior to the students getting on and off the bus. The students will also receive hand sanitizer prior to boarding the bus for dismissal.
Spirit Calendar
Water Wednesdays
On Wednesdays, students can wear a swimsuit, underneath their clothes. During each classes 2nd recess, the students will be able to play in sprinklers, in their zones, during their recess time. Here are the expectations for Water Wednesdays:
- Girls- Need to wear a swimsuit under clothes. Cannot wear a white shirt. If someone is wearing a white shirt, they may not play in the water. Girls need to also wear shorts or a skirt that can get wet.
- Boys- Swimming trunks with a t-shirt that can get wet (also no white shirts). If a someone is wearing a white t-shirt, they may not play in the water.
- Everyone- Needs to bring a change of clothes & 1 towel. Students may not be permitted to share towels. If a student does not bring a change of clothes and/or a towel, that student may not be permitted to participate in Water Wednesdays.
Students must apply sunscreen at home prior to coming to school. We are not permitted to apply sunscreen during the school day as it is considered a topical.
