The Stingray Scoop!
PDES Weekly Newsletter 10/25/21
Principal Message
Dear Peace Dale families,
Just a reminder that the next statewide PD Day will take place next Thursday, October 28, 2021. There will be no in-person learning. Faculty and staff will participate in a full day of professional development.
We would like to thank our PTO for hosting a fun Book Character Walk-A-Thon Event on Friday! Our students enjoyed lots of fresh air and exercise and all the creative costumes! They will be hosting another festive event, The Monster Mash Bash, on Saturday- 10/30/21 from 1-3pm in our Peace Dale playground and field. Come dressed in costume and enjoy an afternoon of games and fun! More information will be sent out later this week.
It looks like it may be a rainy week this week. Please remember we conduct outdoor dismissal plans. Children should dress for inclement weather- boots, umbrellas, etc.
I want to wish you all a wonderful week and remind you that if you have any questions at all, please continue to reach out to me: 401-360-1604.
With gratitude and respect always,
Mrs. Komocar
Peace Dale Elementary School Improvement Planning 2021-2022
We are in the process of writing our annual school improvement plan. Last week, at PTO, families gathered to learn about the Education Accountability Act and RIDE's guidance for writing these plans. This process begins by forming a school improvement team comprised of varied stakeholders and this team will lead the work.
We will begin by analyzing our data to determine our needs for improvement. We began collecting qualitative data and asked teachers, families and staff to complete the short Google form below. It is still active and we would love to hear your feedback:

Soon, our RICAS ELA and Math data will be released and I will host a report night to go over our results. I look forward to our work together and thank you for your partnership.
Updated Outbreak Response Protocols PreK-12 & Asymptomatic Testing Resumes This Week
The Outbreak Response Protocols PreK-12 has been updated- 10/12/21.
SK is currently identified as being in a substantial rate of transmission. Based on this information, our testing plan outlines that we will provide weekly asymptomatic screening with a random 25% of our unvaccinated students through the use of pooled PCR tests while at this level. Testing this week will be on Monday, 10/25/21. Only students with testing consents will participate. Families can consent to COVID testing by accessing the online forms tab within the Family Access page of Skyward. Please know that you can change this consent at anytime. If your child is to be considered for the asymptomatic testing, you would need to have consent completed by the Wednesday prior to our test date.
Back2School Rhode Island is a wonderful resource for families to stay updated on health and safety guidance.

Dyslexia Awareness
Last Friday, Decoding Dyslexia held an event at the RI State House. The RI State House was lit up red for dyslexia awareness. At the event Kari Kurto, a PDES mom gave Nava Shear, a PDES 4th grader, a letter of thanks from RIDE for recording a video for one of RIDE's programs explaining what it's like to be a student with dyslexia. We are so proud of Nava for sharing her story and for empowering others to do the same. We are beaming with pride!
