Nurse's Notes
As we find ourselves in the middle of the cold and flu season there are some important things to remember.
- Doctors continue to recommend getting vaccinated against the flu, even though it takes 2 weeks to become fully immunized. The vaccine is effective for 2 out of the 4 strains of influenza prevalent this year.
- Limit your exposures to illness by avoiding sick people. Do not send children to school who have a fever or have been vomiting.
- Good hand washing using soap, water and friction, using hand sanitizer and not touching our faces helps reduce transmission of germs. Cough or sneeze into your sleeve to keep germs from becoming airborne.
- If you are experiencing the symptoms of the flu, see your doctor the 1-2 days after the onset, as an antiviral medication may reduce the length and severity of the illness.
- Other prevention efforts include, eating and drinking nutritious foods or take a vitamin, get 8-9 hours of sleep a night and exercise 1 hour a day.
See the chart below to help identify the different viruses based on the symptoms. You can see that several symptom overlap, which makes it a good idea to see a Health Care Provider.

Creation Commons News
As an extra bonus, PTA presented Mrs. Krutka with $15,000 to order new materials for the Creation Commons. This is a huge gift and will impact every Blanton student. We are grateful for these funds and will use them wisely.
Blanton Teacher of the Year
Kathryn Jones strives to meet each student at the achievement level while adapting curriculum to facilitate new skills, always looking for a new way to make learning interesting and applicable, takes great care to establish and maintain a reinforcing relationship with each student as well as her colleagues, very organized and inclusive (collaborates across grade levels). Kathryn works together with several teams to seek out and implement new instructional strategies that will reach her kids. She's gone to trainings such as Handwriting Without Tears. She’s extremely attuned to the needs of her students, always making sure she can give as much as she can to them. She is constantly tracking and analyzing her students progress and sharing that information with her students to encourage them further.
Ms. Jones will attend a recognition ceremony in April when the district Teacher of the Year is announced.
