A Strong Community
Hello, Ohlone Families,
The last week of school is upon us. Reflecting on this school year brings much joy and incredible gratitude for the strength of our Ohlone community. Our year is ending with school plays, penguin parties, walking field trips, picnics in the park, and spring celebrations. We have parents back on campus and helping in classrooms and on the playground. I am grateful that our community has remained strong and supportive of our students and each other.
Last Wednesday, our PTA hosted a Farewell, Dawn and Welcome, Elsa luncheon for staff. It was absolutely beautiful, and yes, Elbra made me cry. The food was delicious and the cupcakes were out of this world. The community presented me with a gorgeous wooden box filled with heart-shaped notes from students, staff, and families. I am reading a few each day. Boy, is this a bucket-filler :). A big thank you goes to Elbra, the parent volunteers, and all of PTA for organizing this much appreciated sendoff and welcome. Elsa is going to love it here!
On Thursday evening, we celebrated our beloved farm volunteers and Marieluise. Marieluise is retiring after 17 years on our Ohlone Farm. Another beautiful event complete with past and present farm people. There have been so many reminders of what makes Ohlone the unique and special place that it is. It's a great place to grow children!
PTA also hosted a thank you celebration for our volunteers on Monday evening. We are so thankful that we have such a supportive community that provides supports for our students, staff, and programs. Thank you, PTA!
I hope you enjoy the Memorial Day weekend ahead as we honor those who have died while serving in the U.S. military. We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Tuesday, May 31 for our last week of school!

Student Council narrowed down the ideas that were received from students, staff, and families. Students will complete ballots on Tuesday afternoon. A voting form will be sent to staff and families on the morning of May 31. Polls will close at 2:00pm. I hope to announce the mascot just before the end of the day. Please see the selections below:
The Otter was suggested because of the alliteration and the role otters play in maintaining the balance of kelp forest ecosystems by controlling populations of sea urchins, which are voracious kelp grazers.
The Hummingbird was selected by students because they are fast and energetic like students. One staff member shared that hummingbirds are a part of many Ohlone Native American stories.
The Axolotl was selected because it is unique, just like Ohlone. It is a descendent of the tiger salamander and also endangered which the kids found as an important aspect. It is also part of Minecraft :).
5th Grade Promotion - 6/1
There will be a light reception following the promotion ceremony, compliments of our fabulous PTA and 4th grade families. If you plan to take your child home after promotion, you must sign them out at the flagpole with one of our office staff first. Otherwise, students will return to class with their teachers.
Last Day of School Activities
Later, we will have a closing ceremony on the farm where we connect as a school and wish each other well for the summer. Students hear from their peers about the Ohlone student service groups and are encouraged to support their school community the following year.
