The Weekly Jr. Oiler

September 21, 2018

Join us for Back to School Night

We are so excited to see all of our Jr. Oiler parents and guardians at Back to School Night on Thursday, September 27. You will be amazed at the transformation of the classrooms and campus! Our evening begins at 5:30 PM with a voluntary meeting in our library/media center to learn more about School Loop. 1st Period starts at 6 PM in the classrooms and you will get to travel through your student's schedule.

During your child's lunch period, you can visit the cafeteria to sample some foods that are available for lunches here on campus. Please make sure to have your child write out their schedule (or take a picture of it) so you don't get lost! The office will be open should you need any assistance.

A copy of the schedule is below for your convenience. See you Thursday!

School Site Council

We are looking for parent volunteers for a few committees this year. School Site Council meets to review school goals, budgeting to meet those goals, school safety plans, and more. We are looking for two/three parents to fill this committee. We are also looking for a parent of an English Learner to represent Dwyer at the District English Learner Advisory Committee/District Advisory Council. This group advises the School Board on school programs, as well as programs and services for English Learners and non-proficient students. Each group meets 3-4 times throughout the year. If you are interested in either committee, please email by Friday, September 21.

New Visitor Procedures

Huntington Beach City School District and Dwyer Middle School has been focusing on school safety and how to improve upon all the measures we already have in place. One major change is how you check in to the office when volunteering or visiting. You will now be required to bring your ID so it can be scanned into our system. This will help us make sure that we have a record of who is on campus in case of emergencies. Please also turn in your personalized badge upon leaving. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe!

Drop-off and Pick-up Reminders

Please make sure to use 14th Street or Palm Avenue to drop-off and pick-up your child. Rather than double parking, you may also want to come up with a meeting location a block or two away. There are crossing guards on both streets to help out, so either side of those streets are safe. Please make sure your child uses a crosswalk at all times.

The back parking lot is not a safe area for student walkways and therefore is not a drop-off and pick-up location. It will be under construction all year and is closed to all but staff. Thank you.
