First Grade Holiday Rotations
The First Grade teachers are putting on some fun holiday themed rotations on Wednesday. Students will be doing crafts, wintery activities, and having a great time! LES will also be having a Holiday Singalong that day. It will be a fun-filled Wednesday before the holiday break!
Holiday Party
A big Thank You to Ola (Noor's mom) and Nadine (Kristina's mom) for organizing our holiday party. I know other parents are helping out and planning the party too. Thank you to everyone! We look forward to a great party on Wednesday. I will take pics and post them online. Our class is so lucky to have such supportive parents who plan such great parties (seriously-- best classroom parties I've ever been to!).
Writing
With the holiday season, we are writing about our favorite family custom/holiday and the traditions that surround the event at our homes.
** Illustration Study published books will be graded before the break, but won't be sent home till after the break. You can expect these the week we come back. Please sign and return the rubric when it comes home in January.
Reading
We are reading holiday stories and doing comprehension activities with the books. Today we did How the Grinch Stole Christmas and looked at the author's message, how the character changed, and we had a fun treat with Mrs. DaCosta's class. Time permitting, we will be reading The Polar Express (the copy that I was given from my family as a child) and working on our retelling skills.
Math
We are wrapping up a short measurement unit and measuring with inches on a ruler. Students also compared measurements and determined which items were longer and how much longer they are based on measurements. We will assess this unit before the break. Students who missed the assessment will do it after the break. Graded assessments will go home after the break.
**Please remember to sign and return the assessment that was sent home on Thursday.
Social Studies
We are looking at different ecosystems and environments around the world. We will look at the characteristics of: tundra, rain forests, deserts, and grasslands. Students will be using Myon, an online book database.
A friendly reminder: Tardies
Thank you for trying your best to arrive on time. I know traffic was terrible this morning! Please be sure to arrive to school on time. I am aware that traffic can be bad, but we have been asked to send any students who arrive after 8am (even 8:05am) to the office for a Tardy slip. Thank you for your cooperation.
Playground After-School
We would like to remind you that the elementary playgrounds are closed until 3:15pm. Once the playground opens at 3:15 all students must be supervised directly by a parent or an adult. Thank you for your support.
