Well Patriot Nation, these past few weeks have been interesting, to say the least. I am so proud of our staff. They have risen to the occasion of teaching remotely. I have the utmost respect for each and every one of them. The teachers are so focused on teaching, but also keeping connections with students which is so important right now.
Also, I am so proud of our students and families. Each of you has had to change your 'normal'. Thank you for stepping up to the plate!
This whole situation has made all of us take time to pause and reflect on our lives. One thing that I do know is that we will make it through this 'different' time and we will be stronger than ever. I am confident that we will discover things that we thought would never be possible, but in the end, we've made it possible because of teamwork as an entire community.......students, staff, families of Patriot Nation.
I am beyond grateful to be part of an amazing community. Patriot Nation is the best. WE ARE MILLARD SOUTH!

Remote Learning: A Parent’s Guide
Create a workspace
Free from distractions
What is distracting for one child may be helpful to another (e.g., music)
Easy to supervise
Materials
Have needed supplies (e.g., laptop/iPad, charger, pencils, paper) available at the work space.
Schedule/Routine for the day
Establishing a routine will help your child know what to expect and to understand when and what kind of breaks will be offered.
Have the routine written down and where the child can see it.
Supervision
Check in with your child as often as is needed based on age and level of difficulty with the material
Positive Attention for Expected Behavior
Acknowledge your child’s effort (e.g., You’ve written 4 sentences/paragraphs! That’s great!).
Discouraging Inappropriate Behavior
Remind your child what is expected to do (focus on what to do rather than what not to do)
Use strategies that help your child focus
Set a timer and have them work for __ minutes. Provide a break when done.
Allow your child to listen to music if it does not interfere with them continuing to work
Allow your child to stand while working
Opportunities for Your Child to Respond
To Instruction.
When reasonable, have your child share something about what he/she is learning or share his/her reactions to it (e.g., did he/she know that before? How does that relate to anything else he/she has learned?)
Activity Sequencing
Have your child work on items that are more difficult when the teacher or you are available if needed.
Doing more difficult work first makes doing work later a little easier because it does not require as much effort.

Millard 2020 Bond
2020 Bond Information
On May 12th, 2020 Millard Public Schools is asking voters to consider a bond to address district repairs and maintenance. The average age of Millard’s schools is 38 years old. All together, the district’s buildings are valued at an estimated $700 million dollars. To protect the community’s ongoing investment, the district is asking for a $125 million dollar bond. This would raise the levy approximately one cent. A cent of additional levy would cost an estimated $20 per year on a $200,000 home. The funds would support projects in six areas: safety and security, major renovations, capital equipment replacements, energy efficiency projects, summer maintenance projects and furniture replacements. All 35 schools will be impacted by the bond. More about the bond.
