Sixth Grade AIM
Today in AIM
Exciting times in AIM as our sixth graders take the time to develop their characters for our spin off web series called Another Direction! Last week we enjoyed a “Welcome to America” luncheon in which we tried out our character background stories (in costume and with accents) to see how they mesh together. Before the luncheon we reviewed 1920's social standards for dinner parties so chairs were pulled, conversations about money were avoided etc., In previous weeks we had developed background stories based on research so it was great to see their work come to life. Today we learned about how different camera angles help enhance story telling and began work on writing our “defining moment scene”. This scene is meant to be used as a flashback in episode one or two to help explain the motivations of their character. They will be casting additional sixth graders to play family members for their scene in the upcoming weeks. We continued to tweak our logo and theme song (lyrics by Ashley, music by Eagan) and hope to record it in the next few weeks.
Update on the MORE store and budget project - Last week we also received our paycheck for the month. To calculate their pay check they each started with a base pay of $25 per class and then added a bonus depending on their grade in that particular class. I conferenced with each student to discuss strategies for improving salaries etc., it’s important for them to understand that missed or late assignments do impact grades. Each student paid a 15% tax on their gross income and deposited the rest into the bank before they could shop! They were a little shocked that the prices were so high so they were faced with the dilemma of buying some small things or saving for the big stuff. Most decided to save for the big prizes.
