December Attendance Incentive

In order to encourage excellent attendance, we are offering a new incentive for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders during the month of December. There are 15 school days in December, and every 3rd-5th grade student who is here every day, with no tardies, and does not check out early will be invited to our first ever attendance lock-in party on Friday, January 11. We will have an overnight sleepover party complete with games, movies, and fun activities to celebrate those who make attendance a priority!

We have received some questions from parents who are concerned that students will be penalized for illness or appointments. While we understand and appreciate these concerns, we will not be making any exceptions to the guidelines for this incentive. We are having a problem with declining attendance rates here at Kesterson, and those rates are affecting our students' academic achievement. Additionally, our declining attendance rates were part of the reason our school went from five stars to four stars this year. Since this is a big problem, we wanted to make the incentive really exciting for the students. As with any great prize, not every student will earn this incentive. We understand that some absences are unavoidable. However, if a student is absent or tardy, or has to leave early for an appointment sometime in December, he or she will be able to try to earn the incentive again in January. We are planning on having these parties each month to encourage improved attendance here at Kesterson.

Please Be Good Neighbors

As you are dropping off and picking up your children, please remember that it is important to treat Kesterson's neighbors with respect. We have received reports recently of people backing into or blocking neighbors' driveways, throwing cigarette butts in streets or yards, or arguing with our neighbors. Please do your best to follow our Kesterson Code when you are interacting with the people who live near our school.

Also, please make sure that you are behaving safely when you pick up or drop off your children. U-turns are illegal in school zones, and Henderson Police Department has been known to give tickets before and after school. Follow all posted speed limits, and PLEASE USE CROSSWALKS!

Please Update Contact Information

It is really important that we be able to contact you at all times. This is a matter of student safety. Too often, we call parents and get the message, "This phone is not taking calls at this time," or, "This subscriber's mailbox is full." Imagine if there were an emergency and we could not get through to a parent or guardian. If you get a new address, phone number, or email address, please stop in to the office so we can change the information in our computer system.

Have you ever thought of becoming a substitute teacher?

We love when our parents sub for us! If you have 60 college credits and are interested in becoming a substitute teacher, please check out and contact Sub Services at 702-799-5420 if you have more questions.

Popsicle Sales

Our fifth graders will be selling popsicles and ice cream sandwiches every Friday during lunch recess in order to help pay for the Pali Institute trip. Popsicles will cost $1.00 and will be available for students in grades 1-5 outside of the snack shack.

Volunteer Policy

We welcome volunteers at Kesterson! However, CCSD policy mandates that anyone who is going to volunteer more than three times a month, or who is ever alone with students, must have a background check and fingerprints done through the district. If you are interested in volunteering, please look at the letter that was sent home with instructions on how to complete the background check, or contact Ms. Vicky in the office.

Please remember, dogs are not allowed on campus.
