Message from the Superintendent
Welcome Back to the 2023-2024 school year!
The First Day of School should be a National Holiday! It has to be one of the most anxiously anticipated, hope-filled days of the year (second only to birthdays).
This coming school year, you will hear more about Response to Intervention (RTI) and Tiered System of Support. We are focused on providing a solid RTI system because we know that some students easily grasp new learning and some students need additional time and support to process their new learning. The RTI system, ALL students will receive quality core instruction, timely interventions, and enrichment to extend their learning.
You will also hear more about the Profile of a Caldwell Graduate. We will have ongoing conversations with teachers, families, and students to identify what attributes, skills, and knowledge that a Caldwell Graduate will possess when they have earned their diploma. Consider our new Kindergarteners. One day, they will be the graduating Class of 2036. What attributes, skills, and knowledge will they need to positively participate in their communities? How do we best prepare them for their future? What about the graduating Class of 2050?
We are looking forward to this school year and for the opportunities to come.
Dr. N. Shalene French
Spotlight on Caldwell Graduates
As the new school year is set to begin, our recent Caldwell graduates are getting ready to start their post secondary education.
The Class of 2023 earned over $2.5 million dollars in scholarship money while also earning over 8,300 hours of community service during their time at Caldwell High School.
Julissa Hernandez Alejandre is the first TRIO Upward Bound student from Caldwell High School to attend an Ivy League University. Julissa received a full ride scholarship to Columbia University. (A full ride scholarship is an award that covers all expenses related with college).
"Once I got on campus I just knew I wanted to go school here. I could see myself here for the next four years," said Julissa.
Caldwell High School also recognized:
- 42 high-honors graduates with a GPA of 3.5 or higher
- 33 seniors received Advanced Placement recognition
- Eight (8) seniors received a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) diploma

School Bus Safety
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, children face more dangers loading and unloading school buses than they do being a passenger on the bus. To ensure everyone's safety, the SDE's Student Transportation Department has created two downloadable resources for communities getting back into the swing of things as buses hit the roads this school year. The materials include reminders for drivers and parents as well as a graphic on the danger zones around school buses and how best to navigate them safely. Schools are encouraged to make these resources available to students, parents, and communities.
Help Idaho State Agencies Distribute Accurate Information on PANDAS/PANS to Idaho Families
Local education agencies across Idaho are encouraged to take part in raising awareness of Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections (PANDAS) and Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Infections (PANS). Why is this important to our communities? PANDAS/PANS is associated with strep, bacterial or viral infection, and affected children may show sudden, dramatic changes in personality manifesting in symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder, tics, anxiety and other neuropsychiatric issues. It's estimated that at least 1 in 200 children in the United States, including more than 2,000 children in Idaho, are affected by PANDAS/PANS. The disorder, when properly identified, is treatable.
City of Caldwell Construction Projects
Several construction projects are underway in the City of Caldwell. Work is occurring at Middleton Road, Cleveland Boulevard, Florida Avenue, and Indiana Avenue intersections.
Traffic impacts will occur during the 2023-2024 school year. The city appreciates the community’s patience as improvements are made to these intersections.
