In the 1800's, our great nation is going through a Second Great Awakening. This was because our nation believed hat through religion and doing things right we could change things that weren't satisfactory. Many preachers would hold great revival meetings in order the create this change. This was very popular in the eastern colonies and the frontier. Charles Grandiose Finney was a popular preacher.

Religion also affected many views on many things. Churches apposed alcohol which lead to the temperance movement. The though of religion also brought on the the though that you could make Utopian societies. The Quakers were one of these societies. They had strict rules to live by and were very popular. They were most prominent in New York, New England, and the frontier.
