Hello Parents and Guardians of Anthem,
The motto this week in school is:
I am always communicating through my body language!
Paul Watzlawick said it best in the sixties with “You cannot not communicate.”
When students understand the importance of non-verbal communication, it can be a real “leg-up” (pun intended) for them socially and academically.
Academically, it is important for our kids to understand that when they sit as if they are tired in school, they may actually begin to feel tired. Our body language sends messages to our brain. Sitting up in class and being attentive, will help our children perform better in school and enjoy it more as well.
Socially, understanding body-language is important because how we make people feel is important. If our body language is friendly and inclusive, people will feel welcomed and included around us.

The article Understood - Learning and Attention Issues has some good suggestions to help explore non-verbal communication skills with your child.
It can be interesting to see what your child has to say about this topic. Ask them if they have ever been hurt by negative body language, like someone rolling their eyes or walking away when they were talking. Share your own experiences with your children too! Kids take comfort in knowing mom or dad have dealt with their share of negative body language and they are still standing!

All Things E.Q. -The Discovery of You!
Early Release Friday, September 13
This is a reminder that on Friday, September 13 school will end 90 minutes earlier than our usual end time. That early release time will be 2:00 for Anthem School. Lunch will be served.
This Friday we will work collaboratively to ensure all teams have a deep understanding of the PLC process, sharing out important documents and our archive system. Following the development of Common Formative Assessments teachers discuss how to use the data to meet all students needs.
