ORIGINS OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH - CARTER G. WOODSON
In 1976, President Gerald Ford officially dedicated February as Black History Month, calling upon the public to "seize the opportunity to honor the too-often neglected accomplishments of Black Americans in every area of endeavor throughout our history." This event is an opportunity for ALL people to learn more about the effects of racism and how to challenge negative stereotypes. This wouldn't have been possible without the hard work of Carter G. Woodson back in 1926.

VACCINE UPDATE
Registration for two mass vaccine clinics (UM and MCCHD) opened up this week and appointments filled up within about an hour. Keep an eye on the vaccine page linked above for more appointments to open up. We are anticipating more MCCHD mass clinics at Lucky’s Market to open up for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. When registration opens, it will be updated on this page. Now that we are in Phase 1B, it will take our county some time to get through all residents who qualify in category 1B. If you don’t get into one of these first mass vaccine clinics, there will be more in the future.
Staff can also access the vaccine through their own medical provider. Residents can help providers by refraining from calling them directly and using the website instead.
