Milk comes from hows? What?
Have you ever wondered how milk gets from the cow to the store? I have. To better understand this process, I am going to take you on a journey to learn each step of this process. In the early days, this process used to be easy. Each person would own a cow or two and extract milk from the dairy cow. Due to the increase in population, this is no longer the case. With the technological increases of today society, we now have machines that attach to the cows teats. The milk goes in to large stainless steal pipes to be refrigerated at 4 degrees Celsius!
After the milk is extracted it goes through two different processes at the same time!! Pasteurization & Homogenization.
Pasteurization- This is the process where milk is partially sterilized in order for it to last longer.
Homogenization- This is the process where the milk is refined through very small tubes so that a smooth, creamy texture is created
After this process the milk is then put into cartons where it is sent off to the stores to sell!
What is the difference between whole milk and 2% milk?
The process that allows this to occur is called Centrifugal Separation. What this does is reduces or removes the creme in order to create reduced fat milk!
