30 GT Clock Hours

What is the 30 Clock Hours?
Prior to assignment in the program, teachers who provide instruction and services that are a part of the program for gifted students have a minimum of thirty (30) clock hours of staff development that includes nature and needs of gifted/talented students, assessing student needs, and curriculum and instruction for gifted students. (19 TAC 89.2(2))
The 30 Hours is composed of 5 strands, which are:
- Nature & Needs
- Identification
- Differentiation
- Creativity & Critical Thinking Strategies
- Depth & Complexity

When Gifted Kids Don't Have All the Answers Book Study
This course counts for the Nature & Needs strand of the 30 GT Hours. All assignments will take place in Google Classroom and there is a required Zoom session. This class is self-paced, but must be completed by December 1, 2019. Books will be checked out to the first 20 registrants.
Zoom Sessions (1 is required):
- October 8 at 8:00 PM
- October 28 at 4:30 PM
- November 19 at 4:30 PM

Identification/Assessment for Gifted Learners
Teachers will complete complete the 5 hour online module AND participate in a Zoom discussion in order to receive full credit (6 hours) for this strand.

- Tuesday, October 29, at 4:30 PM
- Thursday, November 7, at 7:30 PM

Creative & Critical Instructional Strategies
Be an appraiser or a Team Manager for Destination Imagination.
Team Manager - meet with your team and participate at the GFW Regional Tournament on February 15.
Appraiser - Attend training on February 1 and appraise at the GFW Regional Tournament on February 15.
The GFW Regional Tournament will be at Northwest HS and Pike MS. Want to know more? Talk to your campus contact. You can also register here and we'll make sure to get you the information.
Depth & Complexity
Session #1 - Completed at Engage or on your campus. If your campus is not providing this training, please contact Audra Rowell for help.Session #2 - October 8, from 4:45 - 6:15 at the Admin Building in PDC-A
Session #3 - November 5, from 4:45 - 6:15 at the Admin Building in PDC-A
In addition to the sessions, teachers will have homework between sessions 2 & 3 that will complete the 6 hour Depth & Complexity strand.

Differentiation
This strand will be offered through a blended book study.
