SCMS Newsletter
March 1 - March 5, 2021
Update from the Principal
It's really funny how time flies. It seems like yesterday we were focusing on creating a safe Return to School Plan in August, and now we find ourselves leaving February and entering March! Only 4 week left until Spring Beak, really?
As I've stated in the last several newsletters, there are several events that often occur towards the end of the school year. Please understand that ECSD has the health & safety of it's students and staff at the forefront of everything we do. So, as it pertains to SCMS and the usually planned in-person events like the Tigers game, Washington DC, Cedar Point, concerts, field day, award ceremonies, dances, etc... have all been cancelled, take place without visitors, or occur through a virtual platform for the students and parents. More to come on this after Spring Break.
Please continue to communicate with the teachers on grades. Grades are to be updated on a weekly basis and if there is any questions, please contact the teacher immediately to have a conversation. It is very important that parents check student grades in Skyward and have communications with teachers if there are any concerns. THIS DOCUMENT has a list of all teacher/staff phone numbers and email addresses.
Enjoy the weekend!

5th grade March is Reading Month
Dear 5th grade SCMS Families,
Throughout the month of March, our district will be embarking on a special project for all elementary students, an all-district book club called One District, One Book. Every family of elementary students (K-5) will receive a copy of the same book – Katherine Applegate’s The One and Only Ivan - and will be asked to read it together at home each day in March.
Please Parent Letter Here as well as the MIRM Calendar for the students and parents to work through at home. These will be emailed to all 5th grade students & parents on Monday, March 1.
5th grade parents should look for an email containing additional information Monday, March 1, in the afternoon.
Any questions, please contact your child's teacher.
Bus Change at SCMS
The ECSD transportation department will be making some temporary bus changes starting Monday March 1st thru Thursday March 11th. Changes are as follows that impact SCMS:
MORNINGS: Students that ride bus 15E will be coming in on bus 12A as well as the students that ride on 12A. The students from bus 15E will be getting a note on Friday, February 26, letting the parents know of this change. This note states that states they will be getting picked up approximately 10 minutes earlier than their normal pickup time. Bus 17B will be helping as well.
AFTERNOONS: Students that ride bus 15E will need to get on bus 12A to return home. The students need to be informed that 12A is in the front loop, bus #2 in line. She will be taking her own students home first then taking the students from 15E home. We will allow a few extra minutes before we leave the school to make sure all the students on 15E find the bus. The note they received also states that they will be home approximately 15 minutes later then their normal time.
The transportation department wants everyone to know that after a day or two, they can fine tune the routes and apologizes for the confusion as they are working diligently to fill the permanent and get the students to school early/on time. This may also make the SCMS 5th grade students that ride 15G late because there are changes on the elementary run as well.
Any questions, please call the transportation department at 810-676-1100.
