End of Semester Incompletes and Grades
As you know, we have been working as a district to revise our grading practices to ensure that grades accurately reflect student mastery of content and that students are provided opportunities throughout the semester to demonstrate their learning. In this first semester of implementing these new practices, we have utilized the “incomplete” in semester grades to give students time to complete missing assignments. As we approach the end of the semester, students will need a final semester grade in all classes. In most cases, the incomplete will be removed and the student will earn the grade based on the final average in the course. In some cases, however, students have not completed enough of the assignments in the course to earn a passing grade despite multiple opportunities to make up and redo assignments, and may fail the course.
As such, we are clarifying the language in the grading guidelines to address these instances.
At the end of the semester, if a student has not completed 60% of the summative assignments (i.e. tests, projects, quizzes) for the course, the incomplete becomes an F for the semester. Prior to assigning a failing grade in these instances, teachers are expected to have communicated with families, conferred with the student, and provided the student the opportunity to retake missing summative assessments.
The grading guidelines can be found here. (Grading Guidelines.12.8.22.pptx)
As we complete our final week of the semester, please review your student’s grades with them and encourage them to put in their very best effort in completing final summative assessments. If you have specific questions about how this policy impacts your student, please reach out directly to your student’s teacher.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership in support of your student’s academic progress.
Attendance/Tardy Policy Revision and Restroom Supervision/Coverage
Attendance is a key indicator for academic success. In an attempt to help our students be present and on time we have made some modifications to our attendance policy. This will go in effect for second semester. Please review the attached revision with your student and help us encourage good school attendance.
We have also made some adjustments to our restroom coverage to help improve access and safety. Our restroom supervision plan can be found at: Restroom Coverage Plan.
Booster Club
Winter Sports Have Begun
Don't forget that we have implemented a clear bag policy to help with campus safety and that no outside food or drinks can be brought into the events. More information about our athletic programs can be found at: Athletics (cguhsd.org)
ACT Aligned Benchmarks and Progress Checks
ACT Aligned Benchmarks and Progress Checks In order to support all of our students in meeting college and career readiness benchmarks measured by the ACT our students are taking regular assessments to measure their progress. Progress checks are administered every two weeks and we will be recognizing students who score at least 5/6 on these assessments. Our next full-length benchmark is scheduled for January. Students can access their scores on these assessments using these instructions.
