Hudson Jaguars 2022-2023
...impacting the world one student at a time
We Love February!
In February, we celebrate Black History Month. The month of February is an ideal time to immerse students in black history and cultures. Students will be reading books, singing songs, making crafts, etc. to celebrate black culture as well as learning about influential black Americans. For a list of books that you can read at home visit PBS Kids.
Winter Weather and Recess
Winter weather is upon us. Please be sure to send your student(s) with appropriate outdoor clothing. We will go outside when there is no precipitation and the "Real Feel" temperature is at least 21 degrees. Students may play in the snow as long as they have snow pants and snow boots to wear.
100th Day of School
February 1st is the 100th Day of School. Celebrations that incorporate reading, writing, math and science activities will occur in Kindergarten and first grade classrooms. Second grade is celebrating the 101st Day of School with several cross-curricular activities.
Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day is February 14th. Class parties will be held at 1:45. Students are welcome to bring Valentine's Day cards to school to share with their classmates. If your child(ren) choose to bring cards for their classmates, they should bring one for everyone.
World Read Aloud Day is February 1st!
Did you know that reading with your child for only 20 minutes each day can have a profound impact on his/her academic success? Hudson Elementary is committed to making sure every child is a competent reader. If you are looking for books appropriate for your student's reading level, look here. Let your child's teacher know if you need help locating books that match your child's current reading level. We are here to help.
Kindergarten Preview
Incoming Kindergarten students and their parents are invited to attend a Kindergarten Preview on Wednesday, March 1 at 9:00 am at Hudson Elementary. Families should plan to bring their future Kindergartener(s) with them to meet the teachers and see the classrooms.
If families can not attend the Kindergarten Preview on March 1st, they will still be able to visit Hudson Elementary at Back to School Night on August 14 at 5:00.
All registration for students K-5 is online, so attendance at these events is optional.
If you have any questions, feel free to call the school office at 309.557.4419.
5 Essentials Survey
Teachers, parents, and students across Illinois have an opportunity to participate in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey.
This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child's school.
Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the environment at your child's school. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be conducted through Friday, March 31, 2023.
To take the survey:
1. Visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/
2. Click on "Start here" under the Parent category
3. You may enter your email address but that is not required. It is completely optional.
4. Enter "McLean" for the County
5. Begin typing your child's school name and you should see it pop up. Click on the appropriate school.
Please take a separate survey for each school where you have a child enrolled.
The survey is also available in Spanish.
The Illinois 5Essentials gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are
Effective Leaders
Collaborative Teachers
Involved Families
Supportive Environments
Ambitious Instruction
Research in more than 400 schools has shown that schools strong on at least three of these indicators were 10 times more likely to improve student learning gains in math and reading than those that were weak on three or more Essentials.
Unit 5 students in grades 4th-12th will be given the opportunity to take this survey. If you do not want your child to take the survey, please contact your child's principal by Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023.
Please be aware that under the Protection of Pupil Rights Act. 20 U.S.C. Section 1232(c) (1) (A), you have the right to review a copy of the questions asked of your student(s). Survey questions can be found on the Illinois 5Essentials Support Center ( Illinois 5Essentials Survey Questions).
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact 5Essentials Client Services at 1-866-440-1874 or impact-surveys@uchicago.edu.
